Check out a movie called "The Black Death"...

By Cyber-Dave, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

It isn't a warhammer movie, but I think it manages to strongly capture the tone of the warhammer setting. I thought I would suggest it to people as a potential mood-setter for their warhammer sessions.

I totally agree. Fantastic Warhammer movie which provides great details on the local life of the Empire. It even has flagelants and a witch hunt!

Very cool movie.

Gitzman

P.S. Also, it stars Sean Bean. So it has to be good.

I'd just like to lend my voice to the praise as well.

In all honesty the movie isn't all that for a fantasy/historical movie it was certainly a cut above the rest. What I really liked about it was that the good guys wasn't very good, just.....people doing their thing.

"brotherhood of the wolf" is wayyy better methinks...

Black Death is total WH

Also, I think Game of Thrones on HBO is also a good source movie/series. I didn't see it when reading the books, but since seeing on the screen I think its a good example on how to make fantasy seem real. I'm very impressed with what they've done with it.

For the who've GM'ed Edge of Night it makes for good source material on how to run a political game.

For warhammer? I mean, I really like Brotherhood of the Wolf. But, I don't think it really manages to capture the tone of the Empire better than The Black Death...

But to each their own. Different strokes for different folks.

Brotherhood is great for Warhammer cultists-feeling, but for the Warhammery feeling of how everyone has motives, and how no one are really GOOD, I have not seen anything better than Black Death.

Can argue on the plot, but for the thick gritty feeling, it's simply superb.

Sean Bean's characters reaction to the saving of the "Witch", is... oh my god, so good, this is how my WitchHunters are!!!

I have somehow missed out on The Black Death, so I'll have to check it out.

Honestly, while Brotherhood of the Wolf had some good atmosphere to it, there was something about it that just didn't "click" with me. I've only seen it once (when it first came to theaters) so perhaps I need to look at it again but usually if a period/fantasy film really grips me, I'll have seen it a few extra times by now. Somehow, Brotherhood didn't catch me that way.

*shrug*

Given that there is a general lack of WFRP-like movies out there, is it really necessary to make a threadjack to establish a pegging order between them? FWIW I think they both do aspects of WFRP very well.

Yeah, there's so much about the Warhammer World, and so much has been done with it over the last 30 years that even if GW were to make a movie especially to highlight their world, there would be a thousand different things they could do.

yup,,, by the way, terry gilliam did a wonderful job atmospherewise in "brothers Grimm",, the portrayal of the village is warhammer iconic and the old crone shouting "Foood for trolls" makes an appearance in almost all of our adventures:)

movies topic was already created, so this is waist of FFG hard drives ;-)
