Terrain Density

Large open areas do seem to give a bit of an advantage to range U and A weapons (but somehow the BBQ squads always manage to get close enough to do their thing) but that can be partially remedied by terrain density and placement. I think we need a better mechanism for determining terrain density.

What I love about forums is there is always someone who knows some form of conceptual game design or mathematics. Who amongst us can provide a plan for placing terrain on 9x9 boards based on reason and possibly known formulas used in the design of the game's actual scenarios? Take into account some terrain pieces are groupings of squares (such as the buildings we use in play, perhaps theguildllc can link some photos).

so we can sit there with slide rules and calculateors , taking just as long to get started as the 40K players ?

we usually set things up like they would be normaly (city scapes , bases , valeys , etc and then set up some smallr items to fill and flesh it out . they will usually be a few fire corridors , but alot of blocking terrain to seperate the main battle field into a few smaller battle fields , but we also play on larger battle fields than most of you , so ................

I've only played one non-offical scenario game and had an idea of where specific terrain went for the scenario and then randonly placed all the spare bits. On page 15 there are official rules for placing terrain for pick-up games, so it would probably be best to follow those guidlines.

We've used the rules in the book for terrain placement and haven't had a problem.

We have used a system that takes the randomness out of it though. For the first game of the night, whoever arrives first, or if we're playing in someone's house, that player will set up the first game board by himself using the same density rules in the book. Then the opposing player gets to see the board and choose a side, then both sides build their lists. It doesn't take any more time than the random setup but allows for placing the terrain with a theme. If the board setup was particularly cool we'll leave it for the next game and swap factions and play again.

No. We dont want anything more complicated than rolling a couple of dice to determine how much terrain we should place. The random amount being preferable to the set amount from the rulebook. The placement being left up to us,' mutually agreeably manner'. We just wanted someone who might know what they're doing to give us some ideas in this regard. You are not this person.

Ah man. Epic response fail. It was meant to be in response to Grandkris. whatever.
