2011 AGOT D.C. Regional Championship statistics, results, and deck lists

By finitesquarewell, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I've posted a PDF of the statistics, round-by-round results, and list of attendees for the 2011 AGOT D.C. Regional Championship on my personal website. Also included is a PDF compilation of each attendee's deck list (missing only Aaron's).

All the info is here: link

A hell of a lot of fun was had by all, with 15 attendees representing DC, TN, NYC, and NC and every house but Baratheon and playing rather relaxed games at Labyrinth Games & Puzzles, the D.C. area's newest and coolest gaming store. Afterward a good few us walked over to my apartment for a backyard cookout hosted by my two roommates (including Steve Kuennen, TheMountainThatRides); much grilled meat, beer, and Pimm's lemonade was consumed by all.

Kathleen, the awesome and energetic Labyrinth owner, posted photos of the event on facebook: link

Many, many thanks to everyone who came out (especially those who traveled for hours to play), and to Labyrinth for graciously letting us take up their play space for an afternoon!

Dobbler said he didn't see the PDFs on my D.C. meta page at first; if that happens, clear your browser history and refresh in case you've been there before and your browser is displaying an older version of the page.

I hope everyone else notices that in the decklist .pdf Jonathan Benton's handwriting looks like he wrote "Gold *****" instead of "Gold Cloaks." Had to do a double-take there.

Congrats of the successful tournament. Just one thing.

I decided to get into this game last week. I thought, "I can probably find some competitive players around where I live (the Triangle area in NC)." Now, in this thread, I read that there are only 15 serious competitive players on the East Coast. I'm worried that there's no reason to really get into this game.

~Erick played Varys (Core)? Wow!

And Jonathan 6 x Distraction? Not sure I cannot read this.

I would look at it this way. For that tourney, 15 people were able to able be off work and find a way to drive up to play in it. I couldn't make it to this regional but I plan to be at the Kingsport regional in a couple of weeks and I know of at least 2 other players that are the same as me.

sWhiteboy,

I'm outside of the Pinehurst area and just got into the game in the last year. I haven't had the most luck finding players in the Carolinas and actually you would be the first. I was up at the DC Regionals and had a blast. If you do end up getting into the game, and I definitely recommend it, let me know. Maybe we can work on growing the game down here. My email is [email protected] and I hope to hear from you.

~Does anyone else find it weird that Erick "magically" got a first round bye in his own tournament?

Erick will be excited to hear that you know of 14 other serious competitive players. You should probably tell him who they are. gui%C3%B1o.gif

The store, Labyrinth Games, looks great! And grats on a successful tournament.

One of those should be Dissension. If I could get away with running 6x Distractions, that would be pretty cool. happy.gif

Apologies for the atrocious handwriting.

Congrats to Erick on a tournament. We had a blast. I'll post more later after I've had some decent sleep.

I think gold ***** are a great idea for a card. What would suggest they do. High Definition inapprooriatness perhaps? I think the tourney report nees to explain. Again I am very drunk and you should probsbly ignore everything I say.

Wow that almost looked coherent I would like to apologize to everyone that read that.,

Thanks for posting all the information. Glad to see the TN guys make it up and that you had a good turnout.

Interesting note: Plot Variety wasn't so varied in the top 8. Valar was 8/8 in the top 8 and Retaliation was 5/8. The only decks that didn't run Retaliation ran City Plot cycle. ~Glad the Restriction of the Fury plots made us make real decisions about choosing our plots. gui%C3%B1o.gif

~Yeah, becuase it woudl have been even MORE fun to see 8/8 Furies on top of the Valars and Retals. lengua.gif

Great work everyone! Fun to see the different thoughts.

~it's unsurprising that a player would be inclined to believe that witchcraft and wizardry are key to consistently doing well at tournaments if they're also inclined to continue to ignore that old, fundamental principle: "go through thy decks and replace the bad cards with good ones; be tempted not by inefficiency." lengua.gif

Having known Erick since before he could go to an R-rated movie after the tournaments he ran...I can without a doubt state if he was going to fix who got the Bye it would be 'anyone but him'.

Wow, Bara players really know how to hold a grudge.

What is the CoreSet Varys for?

I can not understand....

~Sounds like a deck error which should result in a DQ to me... gui%C3%B1o.gif

BTW, thanks for putting all this information together.

~hey, at least i didn't claim to have three golden ***** in my deck -- i keep hearing that i have a bit of AGOT ego, but wow, longclaw, on the other hand... lengua.gif

Bwahahahahaha. Lulz.
