Quest Compendium: Quest #1 Question

By satherial, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Afternoon Folks!

Got a quick question for some of the more knowledgeable peeps out there. In "A Deathly Problem" near the end of the quest explanation it states that a hero may use a ready action to attempt to grab one of the flying shadowbind amulets out of the air and destroy it. You must roll a power surge to achieve this. That portion all makes sense to me, however I'm a little confused at which point the overlord is OBLIGED to tell the players that this is possible. Must it be done as soon as the enter the room? After a monster/player has been brought back from the dead? This same sort of question applies to a number of other quests as well, such as when the Naga in quest #3 (vanilla descent) is encased in an unbreakable crystal. Would I need to clarify that the Naga CANNOT be hit, or would they need to discover that on their own by trying to attack it and thereby wasting a turn.

Much thanks for any insight the community can provide!

For boss monsters, like the naga, you're required to tell the players about their altered stats as soon as they are placed on the map, but you are not required to explain unique abilities, such as Ksst-Haa's crystal skin, basically ever. I will generally answer questions about such abilities truthfully, but I don't volunteer anything.

For special situations like the amulets, I would probably just tell them up front when they enter the area.

If you haven't already found the errata for the quest compendium, you should go get it from the support section.

Yup, already read the erata for that particular quest :)

Thanks a lot for the help bud!
