Monsters Special Abilities.

By Drenik, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

My question is does the monsters use all or one of his special abilities per attack? And my second question is with Web. Does the player have to be damaged to be webbed or is he webbed either way if a creature with web attacks him/her.

Thanks :)

Special abilities often apply to things other than attacks, but yes, they all "stack" and do whatever they do all together. For example, skeletons get both +range and Pierce on their attacks. You don't even have the option to not use one, unless the rules state otherwise - a master bane spider webs its victims even if it doesn't want to .

Most status effects (Web, Burn, Stun, etc.) are inflicted whenever an attack deals damage to you, even if all of that damage is absorbed by armor/shields/etc. and you don't actually lose any health. It is extremely unusual for an attack to hit without causing at least 1 point of damage, but it is possible (for example, hellhounds can potentially roll 0 damage on an attack).

Poison works differently from other status effects, and gives you one token for each wound suffered. This means it can inflict multiple tokens on a single attack, but also that it doesn't inflict any tokens at all if your armor blocks the damage and you don't lose any health.

Perfect answer, thank you.
