What is the best Campaign Map Software? Thks

Dundjinni. You're welcome.

Campaign map - as in overland map? City maps? Dungeon or in-building maps?

Campaign Cartographer 3 is what I used to create this map.

It took me a few maps to get to know the tool, but now I can knock something like this out in an hour or two. I can make a very functional map that still looks great in 30 minutes.

Can't see the link!!! can you send again please?

Can you make a continent map in Dundjinni?

Thks

This forum software is odd - the link shows up just fine in my viewing of the post, and the URL is publicly available... oh well.

Try going here.

I have made campaign maps using Dundjinni, but it was very time consuming and did not come out nearly so nice as the Campaign Cartographer maps. Here's an early example of my Ainmark maps using Dundjinni.

If you get the full suite of Campaign Cart. 3, City Designer 3 and Dungeon Designer 3, there aren't many maps you can't make from within the same tool (CD3 and DD3 are both plugins for CC3) and more to the point, they've incorporated Dundjinni assets into DD3.

Your Map is awesome.. Thks for share.

Both. Thks. Now i can't decide.

I've been using Photoshop to do my maps which has been a lot of fun. If one were to do a large map, what kidn of restrictions do the programs you mentioned offer? Can you do really large maps?

My new map is 40,000px by 30,000px and i thought it would be fun to use the software you mentioned but i'm affraid i'd hit a limitation of the software.

Thanks!

P.S. I think MapTools is only a really viable option if you plan to actually PLAY on the maps using their client. If you just want to make super cool lookign maps for print or on screen, then the software mentioend above is your best bet.

I honestly don't know what the limitations of CC3 are in terms of sheer map size/complexity, but I can certainly imagine some serious slowdown trying to layer that much detail on so large a landscape.

That said, I know it has been used to render some pretty massive maps. Their boards have some excellent examples. In some cases, the people do a lot of work in CC3, and then ultimately import into photoshop to add certain effects, etc.

I read somewhere that WFRP don't incorporate maps in the combat system, it's true? So... what kind of maps we need to play it? thks

None really. FFG seems to include them as a token effort. They do not really play a role in the adventures much at all.

BUT... EVERY role player out there LOVES maps, so the community steps in and makes cool stuff to use.

For myself, I make maps at the campaign and regional level (say a town with the surrounding country side). Occasionally I might spend time working up a rough "dungeon" map for a particular encounter, but that's very rare as I'd rather focus my very limited time on creating game content (NPCs, scenarios, etc.)

For battles, I lay out a dry erase board and draw objects or place location cards (I also make my own location cards) in relative positions on the "map". It's awesome this way - no one is counting out steps to do something, but everyone has a good understanding of where someone or a feature is relative to their PC/NPC.
