Best way to make homeade cards?

By Mattr0polis, in Talisman

So I wanted to print out some of the homeade cards I've seen around and on TI's website. But what is the best way to do this? I've heard printing them on sticker paper and then sticking them to an extra card works well, but won't they eventually peel off, or get snagged on another card during shuffling? Also, will sticker paper work good with the texture of the new FFG cards, since they are kind of bumpy? Also is there a special kind of sticker paper to use? The few times I've used sticker paper to print things the image quality doesn't seem great.

I've thought about taking deck protector sleeves and cutting them down to fit the new Talisman cards, then sleeve every card. This would probably be the best way, as I could just print homeade cards on normal paper and stick them in front of an extra card in the sleeve. No one would ever be able to tell. The only problem with this is it would take a ton of time to buy and cut down that many sleeves and I'd have to cut more every new set that comes out. Also, the cards won't fit in the box anymore if I did this, though the cards would be protected for pretty much ever.

Is there any other good ways? TI, maybe you know of a good system?

Thanks.

Well, I am yet to have some cards printed onto sticker paper as I need to find time to go to the local "copy place" to have them laser printed. I prefer doing that so the cards aren't inclined to "bleed" like inkjet printed cards can do.

The 4th Edition stuff I did worked quite well (apart from meeting a grizzly end - something to do with a cat - don't ask!)

I used some good quality sticker paper, and the actual "sticker" part is very very thin compared to normal paper. There was very little snagging and even if it did cause a problem, you could always peel it off (somehow!) and print a new card off!

I also experimented slightly with using smaller card sleeves (like from Yu Gi Oh) which worked quite well as you could just shove any old card into them. Second, Third and Fourth Editions became indistinguishable - just a thought.

Actually, you can use regular card sleaves for the Talisman cards. They fit perfectly if you put them in sideways. You can then use a Scrapbook cutter or sissors and cut them down to the card size. It works very well. I have done the sticker thing and I have also printed out on regular paper and then placed it in a card sleave with an extra card from the upgrade pack.

I love that they made the upgrade pack. It is a cheap way to get card backs.

Yeah, that's what I had done as a test as well. They fit perfect in normal sized sleeves, just sideways. Then cut them down and you're good. The only weird part is the the opening would be along the side, but that's not too big of an issue.

And yeah, I am also very glad for the upgrade pack for the same reason.

Also, thanks TI. You have made me maybe trust sticker paper a bit more. Those look amazing!

Talisman Island,

What is the exact type of sticker paper you use ? This sounds like a good way of doing this along with cards from the upgrade pack.

I just went to Rymans and bought some Universal A4 Labels.

They are size "P1" 289mm x 205mm with one label per A4 sheet. They are suitable for Laser and Inkjet copiers and printers.

It would be great if Fantasy Flight made some card protectors themselves as it would not only protect your cards but let you make your own cards indistinguishable

Now that's a good idea.

I used card sleeves for 4th edition additions (the cards were bigger). Not sure what I'm going to do with 4.5...

I have problem with protection of the cards too. Especially character cards are exposed to damage - they have sharp corners. Well-fitting protectors would be the best solution.
