Missing a Trick

...Which may be kept for Mark o t Xeno's.

What they should have done is a have Tau collective alien species that is based in the region and fights in their armies locally, kind of like the Vespid (which were first seen in DoW btw).

It would have been good for the rp'ing (if that matters) and they could have created it for a specifc challenge, bearing in mind that the protagonists are going to be almost exclusively Space Marines.

Of course, being anti marine is kind of what Vespid are for, but you can be a lot more subtle in this scale. I don't have any ideas atm but perhaps someone else does.

Very nice idea, Face Eater, I like it. You could even expand the concept to have a bit of a "local flavour" to the Tau Empire, with unusual internal politics between the Kroot, Tau, human allies, Vespid and other local xenos race members of the empire.

Especially if you have a fairly intellegent, civilised species they could have their own internal politics. Their isolation from the collective (or destruction) could be an overiding theme for a campaign.

And it would be a good mission for the Deathwatch to embark upon a campaign of special forces-type raids designed to drive a wedge between the local xenos race and their Tau allies...

I think you've overlooked the fact the area Jericho reach is in is the area the Tau come from. The Tau are from the eastern Fringe, which is where the Jericho Reach is located.

herichimo - The Eastern Fringe is a big place. The Tau Empire is a very, very, very, very small place.

And I don't think you could drive a wedge between the Tau and their alien allies - certainly not the Kroot and especially not the Vespid. Humans, maybe, but not those two.

Not the Kroot or Vespid no, at least not anymore, I'm thinking more about a hypothecal third ally, and just for more storyline options have them relatively new to the collective and / or local to the Jerico reach.

There is still one major hurdle to overcome: As members of the Tau Empire, they get help defending themselves against the threats around them. Threats the Tau would have made them aware of.

If you do cause them to split away from the Tau, they will want protection from elsewhere. So who will they turn to ?

Chaos is the only other force that might accept them.

It's a splended idea.
