I Know Sleeves Like A Tank Top

By mjlogan0114, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

AGOT is my first card game endeavor, and I just purchased the Core Set. I quickly wanted more, so I went out to Miniaturemarket.com and purchased a couple chapter packs along with enough FFG clear sleeves to cover the core set and the two chapter packs. That wiped Miniature Market of their supply of FFG clear sleeves, and now after doing some research I have found those sleeves to be quite scarce.

My questions are these: Did I do alright buying FFG clear sleeves? Should I have gone the Dragon Shield route? Would players be able to tell the difference if I used both sleeves? Wouldn't different sleeve types or different colored sleeves tip players off on what's coming up in their decK?

After you guys help me tackle this, I'm gonna try to figure out this whole multiple Core Set rule of thumb.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Personally, i like Dragon Shields better and always recommend them to player's not looking for fancy art designs. There's definitely a difference in the color versions. I'm not sure about clear, but I'd imagine distinctions, even if minor, do exist. My advice is to not mix the two sleeve types together in the same deck just as you wouldn't mix two different colors together for the same deck; otherwise, you may giving out unwarranted information away (to yourself and others) about your deck.

Unless you're really anal about all your card sleeves coming from the same manufacturer I wouldn't consider your purchase a waste. Just make sure you have the same sleeve type/color for each card in a deck and you should be fine.

And welcome to the game!

Since I'm treating AGoT LCG like a boardgame which I provide for all my players, I've been sleeving every single one of my cards: in Dragon Shield. I am currently using the following color scheme: Red for Targ, Silver for Stark, Gold for Lanni, Blue for GJ, Green for Bara...and uh White for Martell (well, you do wear white in the desert, right?). They were expensive to sleeve and the different length cut were annoying, I'll say that much.

I'm using the FFG art sleeve for Lannister plot cards...hopefully the other houses will also come into their own art sleeves...by early next year. I'm also crossing my fingers for neutral art such as the 5kings Berric Dondarion. If the DS sleeves ever wear out, I'll probably end up re-sleeve them all in FFG art *shudder*.

I've also tried out the FFG matte color sleeve...not bad but mess seem to stick and tend to show more than DS.

To answer your question: FFG sleeves are nice and so is DS (except for the varying cut problem)...but don't ever mix them in a single deck.

Orange sleeves do exist so I was able to use those for Martell. In my not so humble opinion, perfect.

I really like Player's Choice sleeves - bonus is that they come in 60's, so that forces me to have a tight deck lengua.gif They are well-made, and have a good # of color choices.

Just make sure with any sleeves, to get normal size, not Yu-Gi-Oh size (I speak from experience here, having accidently ordered YGO before).

I actually don't mind the packs of 50. Usually sleeves get bent up as they're played with, so it's nice to have a few extras on hand, rather than having to buy a whole new 1-2 packs. Also, if you get a few different colors, you can use one color for a play deck and another for a plot deck. So really, with 100 sleeves, you use 68-69 (depending on whether you're running an agenda), then have ~30 left over for damaged sleeves that should last a few years.

Also, I've found a good use for extra sleeves + those cardboard inserts that come in the chapter pack boxes. I tuck one of those cardboard pieces into an extra sleeve, creating the perfect divider for those 500 count boxes. I use these dividers to separate each card type from another - by plots, events, houses, etc. I also find that extra sleeves help fill empty space when I don't quite have enough card to fill a 500 count box. (Cheesy, I know, but it really does fill that role particularly well.)

Edit/Addition: I bought a few deck boxes and ~500 gray sleeves from someone like 5 years ago that are probably still going to last me another 5 years, at least. They aren't eye-catching, but they were cheap.

I think its time for FFG to re-visit the topic of producing simple sleeves with the logo of each great House on them.

I would buy deck sleeves for all 6 playable Houses in the game plus Arryn, Tully, Tyrell and a reverse black on red for Targaryen Blackfyres.

I think printing deck sleeves with House logos is a better choice than the Jaime and Cersei image ones (since I would buy far more product of House Logo sleeves than with images of just one character). House Logo sleeves would have a much wider appeal than just a single character and would likely sell extremely well.

My old personal favorites though were Max Protection Tournament Sleeves that come in a box of 100 but apparently were discontinued.

Ditto on the house sigils. I would buy at least 200 sleeves for each house. And a generic backing for a nuetral "Game of Thrones" sleeve too. I don't know if that's enough to warrent them making them!

I like the idea of the generic sleeves...definitely something I would use. I wonder though whether FFG is restricted for copyright reasons. In the past, they've focused more on the artwork. If that's the case, perhaps a shot of the Iron Throne (I'm thinking ITE card photo) would be pretty neat?

I like the house sleeves idea. It's been talked about before on these boards and I know I'd buy a set for each house if they ever do release them. Would be perfect!

Many thanks to all for responding. Received my FFG clear sleeves today, and just finished sleeving all my cards. Holy smokes, they about double your deck thickness. I would recommend the FFG sleeves. My only concern is their scarcity. BTW, miniaturemarket.com appears to sell them on the cheap. I payed $1.97 per 50pack. I believe the colored packs are $2.25.

Yep- topic keeps coming up because it's a good one. I too would buy each of those houses, as well as Bolton & Dayne sleeves, and even some with Stannis' sigil, Dondarrion (for the Brotherhood)& some Night's Watch ones, maybe even Clegane or Umber. Think Tully sleeves striped blue & mud red with the trout would be especially cool (have always liked Dayne's also).

You'd think we'd almost have enough firm commits for them to do some kind of small test run on the main houses (can always reprint if popular enough)

I'm yet another who would gladly purchase some sleeves for all houses. How to make it happen?

Last week i was wishing for card sleves for all the houses, as were many other people, besides the jaime and cersie they already have, when lo and behold i was shopping on cool stuff inc when i came across some NEW card sleeves expected to be released summer time. Jon Snow and Melisandre card sleeves. Amazing artwork by micheal komasck. I hope he does the rest. can't wait.

Had a question on sleeves, decided to bump this thread rather than start a new one. Hope no one minds.

I was examining the various options for sleeves, and noticed there was some slight discrepancies in the dimensions listed on some sleeves. FFG's in-house sleeves are listed as 63.5 mm by 88 mm, while most of the other brands I've seen giving dimensions in millimeters are at a slightly larger 66 mm by 91 mm. Does that slight difference matter much? I'm currently using some dirt cheap penny sleeves; they get the job done but they are way too big to handle deftly or even shuffle properly, and when I upgrade to some proper sleeves I don't want a repeat of this issue.

Dragon Sleeves are shorter than FFG sleeves. It's noticeable.

FFG sleeves are fairly long. I don't think you'd ever need to go longer.

I really like the KMC Japanese made sleeves. I was going to provide a link for examples but methinks TPTB might not be too cozy on the idea...

The CoC themed sleeves are great and I would buy the AGoT sleeves from FFG if they were House symbol themed. As of now I have the decks color coded with the brand above.

I use Ultra Pro sleeves because they're cheap, plentiful and fit just fine.

Those KMC sleeves look good.

I wonder why only Lannister/Baratheon/Stark get card sleeves with character art.

So it looks like there's a pretty large number of sleeves that have support in this thread: Dragon Shield seems popular, FFG's sleeves, Ultra Pro, KMC, one person brought up Player's Choice.

Are there any brands that people would warn against?

I'd buy house sigil sleeves for sure,

+1 on house sigil card sleeves. Anyone know when the new art sleeves will be available? We're almost through Q3 when they're supposed to be on sale. The Jon Snow sleeves look really nice.
