Hunt grounds: Any stock game?

By BrotherFiacco, in Deathwatch Gamemasters

Hello everyone,

I'm currently just starting out with game mastering Deathwatch, I'm also a player (Apothecary ftw)

I decided not to do any of the published adventures just yet, In fact I went for a different approach to learning the game mechanics why also feeling out how the group will interact with one another (character wise). Indoctrination in the US military is a process that can be summed up by "Death by Power point!". Indoc for spaces marines on the other hand, well aside from hypno-conditioning, more than likely involves challenging the aspiring deathwatch marines to gauge their skills. I used chaplain strome from RoB to oversee the indoctrination.

First just to demonstrate movement, and the game mechanics with agility tests I had the chaplain challenge our characters by making us race in feats of running through ardous terrain, jumping and leaping across pillars, and swimming through torrential waters, while in power armor (I had debated not being in power armor, but since combat would be 99% in pa it would be better to figure out the penalties and advantages now than later)

Second, we tested the shooting and melee components of the game, first by destroy target servitors at varying ranges, then practicing against combat servitors. After wards I had us do a free for all with only combat knifes and bolt pistols (with blanks), which turned out to be a lot of fun. Although no one was able to win despite an epic head shot I achieved on our salamander.

Well next I intend to run through the solo and squad mode abilities. Then test out the different gravitational effects.

After all that, we will go through the back of the book mission extraction

Finally to the question of the thread. Has any one brewed up with other creatures (i kno mark of xenos is coming out soon) that they have used against their groups? If so may you share them? If not, I would like to work with we the community to make up some monsters that can be hunted in the hunting grounds.

I typically use creatures from all the books DH ect. If you are interested in homebrew material Darkreign40k.com is probably your best bet.

Great ideas.

I was planning on doing a training hunt with my players usingsmall groups of hormagaunts. Starting off one or two at a time then increasing into small hordes then increasingly large hordes so they got to try out the squad mode abilities and got used to horde fighting.
