Burn effects and attachment removal

By rwjohnson, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Suppose a Targ player with Crown of Maureen is playing a Martell player with Sun Stroke (awesome card, BTW).

The Martell player puts sunstroke on a Targ character, Drogon for instance, who also happens to have Crown of Maureen. If Drogon attacks, and Martell chooses unopposed, could Drogon take control of Sun Stroke and attach it to a Martell player? Would Drogon still be dead, since he was Moribound at the time of moving the attachment?

Also, assuming the attachment can be moved to a Martell character, would the effect reverse itself, so if the Martell player loses a challange by 4 or more strength they will now be losing their own dude?

I think it would depend on who was first player... if the Targ player was first player, he/she could move the Sunstroke before the Martell player has a chance to use it since first player would have an oppurtunity to make a Response first. If Martell player was first player, he would activate the Reponse on Sunstroke, at which point Drogon becomes Moribund, so the attachment also becomes Moribund, and thus moving it would be pointless since it will be leaving play even if it is moved. Moving the attachment would not make Drogon any less Moribund, so he would still die. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong...

It's all moot, since Drogon can't have attachments ;)

And btw, Drogon cannot have any attachments and I cannot spell "opportunity" properly...

If you do take control of the attachment, the card works just like it did for the Martell player. Since you are the controller, the "you" on the card refers to you. So you can trigger the response if you lose a challenge, not if the opposing Martell player loses a challenge.

Good point!

I guess the example would apply for another character with 4 strength, maybe a Strength pumped Khal Drogo

Interesting, I will have to remember this if the situation comes up. So if I am first player and move the attachment, Sun Stroke would not trigger because I am now the controller?

Not quite. First of all, it doesn't trigger by itself; the response has to be triggered by the controller (just like any other response). And you cannot trigger it in the framework action window in which you took control of it with Crown of Mereen, because you did not lose the challenge by 4 or more Strength (or lose at all).
