Please help me get rid of the headache Ring veteran... And one other Q

By Mordai, in UFS Rules Q & A

Hello. Well my problem is actually my friend :P last time we were playing he got 2 of these card out in play and then at my ready phase he wanted to play the R on both copies.

Thing is, I heard that only one R/trigger so he should only be able to use one copy,

Can someone stamp this for me please so he stops bothering me about it

2nd question is about Streneous training,

Scenario like this

A: I play spiral DDT 6damage

I buff it with Streneous Training giving my attack 10 Damage

B: He blocks my attack. there for triggering the minus 4 damage thing on strenous training

Well. What I want to know is is the minus 4 for the current damage so it goes back to 6dmg or is it minus 4 from the printed damage?

For your first question, yes, he can indeed respond with both copies of Ring Veteran. The reason for this is that anytime a response could be played, it can be played one time per trigger, per copy of the card in play. So after your Ready Phase, the trigger for Ring Veteran opens. He can respond with one copy, and then, once it resolves, respond with the other copy, because the response window for Ring Veteran is still open.

As for your other question, Strenuous Training sets up a floating condition: if the attack is blocked, it gets -4 damage. If you use it on Spiral DDT, then the opponent blocks the throw, because the attack was blocked, it will get -4 damage, at which time you move on to the damage step, and the opponent takes 3 damage.

In other words - it gives it -4 damage from whatever the current damage is when the attack is blocked. If you gave Spiral DDT a +2, then used Strenuous Training, it would be at 12 damage. When blocked, then, it goes down to 8.

Oh thanks :) Well I will strangulate another of my friends! He told me "only one response/trigger" when I wanted to use Merciless and another time sensing weakness,

So I am able to stack up responses like that? or..?

Yes. You may play any number of responses per trigger, so long as you're not playing the same response on one card multiple times.

Also, Sensing Weakness and Merciless have different triggers; Sensing Weakness happens after your opponent makes the check for their block. Merciless triggers afterward, when the block hacked by SW fails.

Yes I know. It was 2 different episodes described :) One where he did not block and one where he did block.

Both times I had 4 copies of the specifik card in play

Ah! Yes, you can indeed do that. You play the response on whichever card, at which time your opponent may attempt to respond to that, and you can respond to HIS response, etc. After your original response resolves, then you can play the next response to that same trigger, and so forth.

As a note, the thing about one response per trigger isn't really important with Ring Veteran (in the general sense) since it commits as its cost and it's hard to ready a card during that timing.

As an example of where once per copy per trigger comes into play, Experienced Combatant has roughly the same timing as Ring Veteran, but its cost is simply discard 2 cards. So, if you have two copies of EC in play, you may respond one time with each EC, but you cannot respond with the same EC two times.

Exactly. You still have to pay the cost for every response and whatnot.

I think I'll just borrow that there, Tag...

*reaches*

*STAMP* for me =P

well Thanks alot, :)
