Criticals vs armour

By Jericho, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hello everyone !

I need help to understand a specific aspect of the RAW.

It regards the minimum wound rule and the use of armour.

The RAW is clear as to what happens if damage done is 0 or lower once Soak and To have been substracted.

Minimum 1 Wound, if any Criticals have been caused, convert each one into a normal Wound. (IE: 2 Crits = 2 normal wounds inflicted)

Now what happens if you inflict 1 normal Wound once Soak and To have been taken account for, but have also 3 Criticals as a result of Boon / SC use ?

In this situation, you have caused damage, so you arent under the Minimum Damage rule, but you can't convert the 3 Criticals, since you have only caused a single normal wound !

Do you convert one critical and forget the rest ?

Do you convert one critical and cause 2 extra normal wounds ?

The RAW is ambiguous, so I wonder how people are playing it.

Thanks all !

You would inflict three critical wounds I think. The critical wounds are only converted to normal wounds when you are actually below the damage reduction value and end up with zero or less damage. But honestly I see why you're confused. You could go two ways. Either 3 critical wounds are inflicted or 1 critical wound and 2 normal wounds.

Deal 1 critical wound and 2 normal wounds. +1(or 2, 3, etc) critical damage doesn't add wounds, it converts normal to critical. If there is only 1 normal wound going through, then only one can be converted. The other 2 crits would go towards raising minimum damage through armor.

Just have to ask. it would not be 2 critical wounds then?
1 normal wound converted into a critical.
1 critical goes towards rasing minimum damage through armour.
1 critical wound through the normal wound created by the critical that raised the maximum? ;)

Nope. You don't deal with wounds one at a time like that. If you did, it would work that way when damage is completely soaked (so 6 damage, 3 crits against total soak of 8 would do 1 crit + 1 normal, rather than 3 wounds).

It may be easier to look at it in terms of soaked crits getting downgraded to normal wounds.

I believe the doc is spot on :)

I agree. I'll be doing this in my game.
