BALKA, anyone?

By LETE, in Tide of Iron

Hiyas!

First of all: what is balka?

Second:

a) Does a Balka Terrain hex block LOS for any unit or just for those shooting at the Balka (the ones inside it DO NOT suffer from blocked LOS)?

b) When a vehicle is moving continuously thru Balka, does the vehicle have to roll for EACH new balka hex or just for exiting/entering Balka to another Terrain hex?

Thanks!

L

Text from the STUKA PILOT book:

"The only possible cover is in so-called Balkas, clefts in the surface of the earth, or galleys, the bottoms of which lie
some 30 feet below the surrounding plain. They are relatively wide so that vehicles can be parked in them, not only one
behind the other but also side by side. The whole country stretches like this for many hundreds of miles from Rostow to
Stalingrad. If the enemy is not encountered on the march, he is always to be found in these hiding places."

Hi:

Thanks for the redirect!

I was wondering also , when a vehicle is moving continuously thru Balka, does the vehicle have to roll for EACH new balka hex or just for exiting/entering Balka to another Terrain hex?

"Vehicles must roll a die when entering or leaving a balka hex unless they are entering from an adjacent balka or balka entrance hex ."

There it is!

I guess the above picture clearly demonstrates that for this T34 to be attacking anuthing with any chance of success the target would have to be right at the edge of the Balka: in game terms: adjacent. Hope this solves the speculation on how a balka is suppopsed to work in this respect. By the way, I wonder when we're finally going to get to see a FAQ....
