Haarlock Heraldry

By reptile74, in Dark Heresy

Hey

Started up House of ash and dust the other day, I don't own the other parts yet (tattered fates...) I wonder, before the players gets to the tomb in the house of dust and ash. Does the Haarlock family have any specific Heraldic symbols? Something that will be used from time to time in the coming parts of the Haarlock trilogy? If it's not stated anywhere what do you think that the Haarlock heraldic shield would look like?

I believe there is a portrait of Haarlock himself, in the adventure "Dead Stars". Above and behind him is a crest that I'm pretty sure belongs to his lineage. The crest is a distorted aquilla with a skull in the center. Atop this crest is what appears to be an ovoid space with a spider descending upon the aquilla.

That's correct. It's a golden spider clutching an Aquila (Imperial Eagle). This is stated in "Know no Fear". KnF is a free download for Deathwatch available here on the FFG site. Mordecai Haarlock earned his Warrant of Trade in the Jericho Reach during the Age of Apostasy, and KnF goes into those events in some detail.

Cheers,

- V.

Great. Thanks alot for the help!

There are various references to spiders in all parts of the trilogy. Spiders are the Haarlock heraldry animal.

In TF there is a Spider Bride.

In DC there is a mural of spiders catching the stars in their web with a caption 'the future is ours'.

In DS Haarlock is referred to as 'that old spider'.

there is a old topics about this. i think it s graver who talk about it. anywat spider are good symbol in ancient and primitive culture spider can be seen as agents of chaos/law/trickster/ wise/ god/ and so on. a litle like snake they are seen as much as good as bad. So why not.

With all the Spiders tied in to the Haarlock imagery we had the Haarlock sigil as a Spider with its limbs contorted into a stylised capital H. Two legs for each "arm" of the H.

The aforementioned spider plus Erasmus kind of developed an obsession with clockworks.
