Scenario 5 Operation Cyclone "Gamey"

By Dcal12, in Dust Tactics

Operation Cyclone Scenario 5 page 15.

Submarine is pulled into the dock. Side ramps are down to unload.

Can a unit move from the front hatch to the bow (U-102) to the dock? All squares are valid for occupancy.

I think not. I am the allies for the first game and playing that I cant do that. Think my opponent will be doing it when they play the allies.

I ended up losing. All he had left was a Lothar that his command unit brought back into the game and four members of his Command Squad. After the game I did realize that Mickey can actually start on the front hatch 1 point and jump from that location to one space from the objective square 2 points.

This brings the next question. Could someone explain this to me?

Again scenario 5 of Operation Cyclone

It states the following under the heading instructions:

If one of your units is on the objective square at the end of a round, you gain two extra victory points. Each round you control the objective square, you gain two additional points.

Is this saying that if you are the last to control the objective square, but your unit was destroyed you continue to gain points?

If at the end of a round I have a unit on the objective square, do I gain 2 or 4 points?

I am sure I am making this more difficult than it really is.

Thanks

i would say you get 2 points , that you cant control a square unless you are on it at the end of a turn , that THAT detrmines "control"

ok we played it correctly then.

Thanks

I'm about to play this scenario, and I'm really unsure how to handle the movement from the bow of the submarine. It would seem the scenario is meant to be played by going solely down the side ramps, thus forcing the attacker to run the gauntlet to get to the objective square. Moving straight from the bow to the objective square makes the scenario much easier for the attacker. However, rules-wise I can't see a justification to disallow such a movement, specially not for a unit with the Jump ability....

Thoughts?

I've played it a couple of times now and it was certainly not easy for the attackers, in fact, they lost every time. They need to be able to move off the prow of the sub to have any chance at all, if not, then the defenders can camp on the objective for an easy win.

Yeah, I've just finished playing as the attacker, with no movement possible from the prow, and I was slaughtered. The game ended in the 5th round, 28 to 11. From now on I think we'll definitely allow this movement.

Played again this past Friday and we played the attacker could move off the bow. But even so I lost as the attacker and then the guy I was playing lost as the attacker.

Would like to keep playing as the attacker though, I think it can be done.

Yeah, I do enjoy these skewed scenarios, it really makes it a challenge for one of the sides. Though we don't need to make it harder than it has to be.... so movement alllowed from the prow from now on.

I do wonder, however, how these things play at these championships and stuff. I mean, it's great fun to play one of these lopsided scenarios with your buddies. But if you're playing to win in a serious competition, it must be upsetting to be stuck as the attacker in this scenario, or the defender in "Close the Window", or the attacker in Blue Thunder 4 "Counterattack"...

I know when I played in the tournament at GenCon a scenario came up that seemed lopsided and we all just voted to replace it. So some scenarios may not have a place in a tournament, but I think they are still fun when you both get to play the attacker and defender. I know thats what we do when we play on Fridays.
