Stopping "Join the Winning Team"

By Kaivtroll, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I don't know if anyone has had a fix for this, or even if too many people have an issue with it. But my solution is a Player vs. Player solution. In the game if some one wishes to they can attack another player if they are at the same location. They fight my comparing combat successes. Players deals damage equal to the number of net successes over the other. At the end of the fight the victor is arrested and the looser goes to the hospital. Any missions in effect for either player are ended without resolution

The real fix is that it's nearly impossible to implement ;'D

Errr... Hrm...

Basically it's that it's extremely difficult for one investigator to acquire 4 allies. Even if they get the material at the beginning of the game that would make it possible (i.e. perhaps an investigator that started with an ally, and a dhole chants). Very unlikely. They'd *still* need to get two allies. Not *that* easy. Although not by any means difficult. But let's say he's trying to get 3 allies? That's 30 toughness worth of monsters and gates. Good luck collecting that with one investigator. And four? Which is the case for every investigator but Charlie, Leo, and Duke? Good luck with that. It's not easy at all.

And then of course there is the unwritten social rule, don't screw up the game for everyone else ;') it's pretty unlikely a person's going to try playing Join the Winning Team, if he wants to have anyone to game with in the future.

Not sure he's speaking about the Task/Mission card. Just a new point of view for playing Arkham... But i'm not sure at all.

depending on how many players youre playing with, you could just remove the missions card the deck. when I play a 2 players game, I discard them from the start so you cant start with a totally useless unique item.

And Roland!

Rather than removing all tasks/missions, if you have a problem with "Join the Winning Team" specifically (which I would, as I don't like adversarial AH unless it is very well thought-out), just remove that card. Problem solved. ^_^

Wow, Avi, the people you game with sound pretty harsh. They'd really react that badly to another player winning with Joining the Winning Team? I wouldn't like losing, it's true, but if another player completed that mission while I was playing with him I would certainly still play with him again, and I would admire his skill and luck in completing so difficult a mission.

The point of most other games is to win at the expense of other players. Avi, you and your friends don't play any competitive games?

This mission is almost impossible as it is. Though I wrote a scenario based on this mission (along with For the greater good and on the Ley Lines), that I shall translate to english one day (hopefully with more time). For now, if you read french, you could cast a glance here .

Charlie's lucky enough to start with an Ally, but his speed is so bad that he'll be hard pressed to find the others in time.

Interesting idea though, and appropriate assignments of missions to the other two. Though any scenario with Atlach-Nacha is bound to induce terror.

thank you for the feedback (hey, I did not know that you could read french. Thumbs up :) During the play test, Charlie won by 1 turn (he was first player on the decisive turn ;o). Oh, and yes the Spider-god boosted by Julia herald was really scary ...

I would pick up the board and smash it over the person's head. Then I would throw the dice at him. Then I would force him to eat all the monster chits. And that's just for an appetizer.

I killed all my friends who played competitive games ;'D (the ultimate victory!)

Being a non competitive person sometimes forces you to competitively kill more competitive friends in order not to be any longer competitive against your will (?)
