Questions Regarding Melee / Combinations

By Xzarol, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hey there, I've been playing Dark Heresy with my group for close to a year now, and I've accrued some questions regarding a few things.

First off, I was wondering if the maximum modifiers to any test are +30? I've heard this online, and I was quite curious.

Secondly, is it ever possible to get more than one attack on the charge?

Third, is there ever a reason to use Frenzy if you already have skills like Lightning Attack?

Fourth, does anyone have some pretty good tips for an Assassin character? (Melee variety)

Fifth, what are peoples favorite combat drugs? I've been considering using them more.

Also, what would be a really good weapon to use for combat? Right now I have two power swords, but I was thinking of trying new things out.

Haha, sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn some more about the game and improve.

No. It was raised to +/- 60 in the Errata. Xzarol said:

Yes, but only in Ascension, as one of the Death Cult Assassin traits. One could houserule that Furious Assault allows the charging character to apply it to a Charge as well, since it is a Full Attack Action, of sorts.

Hard Target and Sprint are your best friend, and Agility/Dodge should be extremely high priorities. Melee characters spend more time in short and point blank range then any other character type, so take advantage of those cheap Agility advances. If you ask me (which you did) the Moritat package is overrated, since it doesn't allow you to use power-weapons (subject to debate), and Power-sword - Serpentine dual-wielding is just incredibly effective at destroying people's weapons with the sword and bypassing defences with the serpentine.

Fifth, what are peoples favorite combat drugs? I've been considering using them more.

1) Well errata says :"The maximum situational modifiers in combat should be
+60/–60, instead of +30/–30 as described in the Combining
Difficulties sidebar on page 197." So I guess non combat are +30/-30 and combat +60/-60

2) Yes, if you are ascended death cult assassin you can charge as a half action and you can use swift and lightning attack. I don't know of any other way.

3) Frenzy is really good talent especially with melee fighting. First of all you are immune to fear, pinning, stunning effects, and the effects of fatigue, and you may not parry, retreat, or flee. Second of all you get a +10 bonus to Weapon Skill, Strength, Toughness, and Willpower, but suffer a -20 penalty to Ballistic Skill and Intelligence. So I would use it with lightning attack cause you get some good bonuses to melee attacks. This talent is a fastest way to get fear immunity in game , cause fearless comes very late in the advance. Besides if you going to charge, enemy can use pinning atack, so with frenzy you are immune to it too.

If you are trying to use new melee weapons try to use monoswords or mono greatsword in combination with moritat career and their "bloody edge trait" then death cult assassin ascended career.

For the Moritat, not just Mono but Lathe. No break test versus Power weapons, better pen and dmg than mono.

For Fights with enemys that dealt lots of damage my guardsman exchanged his second sword for an arbites shield.
It does little damage if used as a weapon but it is shocking and it gives bonuses to parry and armour to the arm holding it and the body.

And weapons with the flexible or quick traits can be cool. More so if (as already said by phantomoftruth) with the lathe Upgrade.

I believe he asked about Frenzy being useful when you have other talents like LA, because you cannot combine the two. I have found Frenzy to be beneficial in only certain circumstances. Mainly when fear was an issue.

I agree when pinning and fear are an issue is good to use frenzy if you have it.
