Five questions.

By Uncle Joker, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

1.

Pyat Pree
Ally, Qartheen If you win a challenge in which Pyat Pree attacked alone, instead of the normal claim effects, choose and kill a character controlled by the losing opponent.

I saw some players said that Pyat Pree can choose Red Viper as the target, is that really true?

2.

If Threat from North came up with Forgotten plan, and a STR1 character get a +1STR until the end of the plot phase. Will it be discard at the end of the plot phase?

3.

If Threat from North came up with Valar Morghulis, STR1 characters are going to be discarded or be killed or be determined by the first player?

4.

Can I play a unique shadow card copy for free since I already got one in play under my control?

5.

Spending the Winter Stores
When revealed, choose an opponent. Then you and that opponent each search your decks for an in-House attachment card, reveal it, and put it into your hands. Then shuffle your decks.

Do I have to add an attachment to my hand if I have one in my deck?

1. I really don't think so. I think Viper will be immune.

2. Not sure on the timing here. As soon as the STR 1 character gets the -1 from the plot, I think they are discarded then.

3. It will depend which order the plots are resolved in (up to first player)

4. yes, you can play it as a dupe for free straight from your hand, or you can also put it into shadows first.

5. Not sure if you can choose not to.

I think so. Pyat replaces how the claim works, and Viper is not immune to claim effect. I'm not sure though (because of word "choose").

This is correct. Pyat Pree's ability changes the instructions for how to settle the claim effect for the challenge. That means the character ability works on claim, which then does the actual choosing and killing of a character. The Viper is not immune to claim, so he can be hit by the modified claim effect.

Say, for example, that the Martell player has 2 characters out, the Viper and someone else. During a military challenge, the opponent plays "Winter is Coming," raising their claim value to 2. When the Martell player loses that challenge, he cannot say that the Viper is immune to the event that raised the claim because the event worked on the claim, not on the character. That makes sense, right? The Pyat Pree example works the same way.

Yes. From FAQ: "Until the end of the phase" lasting effects expire in step 3 of the "End of Phase" framework action window.

This is correct. The "+1" wears off at the end of the plot phase, but Forgotten Plans does not kick in until the beginning of the Draw phase. Therefore, in that space for passives at the end of the Plot phase, the 1STR character's STR hits 0 and it is discarded from the plot.

3. If Threat from North came up with Valar Morghulis, STR1 characters are going to be discarded or be killed or be determined by the first player?

The first player decides. FAQ page 7, 2.5

This actually is not true, but an easy mistake to make. Threat from the North is a constant effect while Valar is a "when revealed" effect. As such, Threat is active and applicable from the moment it is revealed while Valar waits to initiate. They do not conflict, so the First Player has nothing to choose. And because Threat is active first, the 1STR characters will be "moribund:discard" before Valar has a chance to kill them.

It is the same reason why Power of Blood always protects Noble characters from Valar, regardless of who wins initiative and what the First Player might want to do.

Yes. You play duplicate, not Shadow card.

To be absolutely clear, the unique card with the Shadow crest can be used to dupe from hand (for 0) without going through Shadows first, but could also be used to dupe from Shadows (by paying the full cost to put it into Shadows, then bring it out).

5. Do I have to add an attachment to my hand if I have one in my deck?

You must, since it's passive effect. Of course opponent cannot verify this, so it's a matter of sportsmanship.

This is correct, complete with the potential "gee, I searched my deck, but I don't have any attachments" lie - that we all hope everyone stays away from.

Ups, sorry for confusion. I didn't pay attention to the example and I was thinking about burn vs Threat from the North kind of thing.

thank you Rogue30 and Ktom.
