Hey, that's a good sign, Tide of Iron is being reprinted :)

By Kaufschtick, in Tide of Iron

Whoa, just cruizing through the upcoming listings and I see that ToI is being reprinted. I don't think I've seen that ever before. Must be with the release of the Russian expansion that folks out there who are into the Eastern Front are snatching up the base game to get the Germans.

The next move for this game should be to get a scenario book going for the Eastern Front.

After that, the game seriously needs to have a scenario builder available for fans of the game to start creating their own scenarios. I mean, in the 1st scenario book, in the designer notes section, it was stated that one of the main design goals of the game was to create a toolbox game for players to build their own scenarios and such. Now call me crazy, but if FFG made available a scenario editor, then maybe that original design concept could come to being, and there might be a nice increase in sales. The players have the tools, now they just need a way to put the tools to good use.

Is it a reprint with minor (but imporant) fixes or simply a reprint of the old rules?

Not sure about the rules, although, I can't see anything in the rules that have changed from the first run?

I'm going to guess that the map boards may be the upgraded ones from the map pack though. Hopefully the pegs on the troops are fixed.

I think mainly the biggest thing about this is that someone at FFG, somewhere along the line, has seen something in terms of sales to say, "Hey, we need to make more of this game."

That is a good sign for ToI in moving forward. If the game is still selling to the point that FFG decided to make more of it, it could be a sign that we may see more ToI products yet ahead.

ToI still gives players the biggest bang for the buck, IMHO. You get miniatures, if you're big on that, super high quality game components and markers, hard mounted map boards, a set of base rules that allows new players to come on board, and the choice of three theaters in WWII.

FFG should consider doing an advanced version of TOI, and add some different type vehicles and tanks and a few new infantry figure types, then consider the discussions on this forum, which have offered some clues on how to adjust some things like Combined fire overkill, and unit movement and gun ranges to be more realistic, and make a new rule book. Also make some new reference sheets with a more distinct weapon trait icon, adding one for the equipment trait, and include both the terrain chart and the damage chart. as and additional page.

I hope you are right that they take this as an opportunity to fix some of the previous issues like the soldier pegs, boards etc. I will definitely buy a new base game if this is the case!

And making a new rulebook, gathering information about a subject in one place, writing more clearly, not saving words to explain the rules, with more illustrations about complex situations. And with Advanced Rules, has a bunch of them in variant section of any forum.

Do you think there will be a way for us to find out ahead of time what, if anything, has been updated in the reprint? Or will we have to wait for one of us to buy it and report back here? You know someones willpower wont hold up too long. gui%C3%B1o.gif

I had been thinking of getting a second copy anyway. The only thing holding me back from doing it so far was the thought have having to purchase even more WTM and Can.Do models to upgrade the vehicles.

By the way... anyone know a place to get comparable DotF Brit vehicles? Do I need to go metal and try painting them myself? I feel bad that the U.S, Germans and even Russians have upgrades, but there is no love for the Brits. Poor guys.

Why go metal, I was thinking of just painted the plastic we already have. happy.gif

A scenario editor would be awesome! and another designer's serie! happy.gif

i have the complete game (expansions and all) at the amount of money i spent collection this game now to see an updated version coming out im not to sure if im going to be to happy about this. yes i agree they need fixes to the rules, some of them are not to clear, they need to fix the peg problem on the soldiers ect. if they were to allow people who already have everything there is a way to get the updated rules ect at a reasonable price then i would probibally be all in

The beauty of Tide of iron is that rules can theoreticly be sold independent of the rest of the game. Thus rules can be updated without forcing us to buy the entire game.

Thats what they did with Tannhauser when they released the revised edition of the rules. It was a stand alone rule book for a reasonable amount of money. But I don't think ToI needs that drastic of a revamp on the rules. Just add in errata and reflected FAQ answers and its good to go.

I think I am going to try this... but I've never painted minis before. My guess is they will not turn out that great. I plan on practicing on all the vehicles that I have already replaced first. That way if they look horrible I'll leave the brits alone lengua.gif
