Distinguish rare cards?

By Monkey007, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hello ladies and gentlemen. I apologize if this thread finds it self in the wrong section.

I came upon a large large box of AGOT cards. And I don't have the time nor the opportunity right now to enjoy this game. I do need money to fix my car, and I cannot find any way to distinguish Rare cards from everything else. I have seen MTG cards before, and they are easily identified. Is there something that I am missing on AGOT cards? Is there no way to tell without looking up every single card?

Thanks

When the game worked as a CCG all the rare cards were marked with an R right before the number on the right side right under the image. It should be either an R for rare, a U for uncommon and an C for common. If there is anything else then the card is a fixed card from the LCG core set or chapter packs or the old Premium starter packs etc.

To be honest, even CCG-era rares are worth fairly little, since they aren't played in FFG-sanctioned tournaments anymore. LCG (generally white-bordered) cards come in fixed packs, so there is no rarity.

In short, there isn't really a singles market for this game, so chances are you aren't going to be able to make a lot of money. You can sell them in bulk/as a set to someone, and might get more than what you paid for it, but there won't be any MTG-like discoveries of old jewels amongst the rubble. (That's great for the game, I think, but bad for treasure hunters like yourself :P )

ahhh okay, so they are worthless for someone who needs to sell them. I appreciate the information guys.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Not worthless, but not worth much. If you've got the time catalog them and put them up on eBay and/or BGG and see if anyone is willing to give you some cash. Don't expect much, but some is better than none, no?

Just to add to what has been said above:

While you won't find anything in the box that people will pay big money for individually (i.e. there's no such thing as a Black Lotus these days), you might be able to net a couple of tens by flogging the lot (especially if you can indicate how many cards there are in the box). There's a trade forum here that might let you shift a bulk lot, or otherwise there's a fairly active market over at BoardGameGeek.com.

There's an active thread dedicated to shifting old cards in the 'AGOT: CCG' sub-forum, and a trade forum dedicated to CCG Trades/Sales, on which you can probably snag a buyer if you post a quick photo of the lot.

Alternatively, if you are willing to catalogue what you have, people might well throw a few dollars at you for cherrypicked singles that have been reprinted in the LCG.

Either way, don't sling the things in the woodchipper, you'll make something from them (heck if you weren't in the US and postage wouldn't make it totally unviable, then I'd offer you something myself). You'll definitely find a buyer for these if you make a few posts at the abovementioned locations.

I'd be interested. Please send me an inventory? Thanks.

I'd be interested in buying some as well -- do you have any from Iron Throne, Five Kings, House of Thorns, House of Talons?
