What's next?

By Hanomag, in Dust Tactics

Specifically I was wondering what types of infantry would be next for the Allies. We know the Germans have the Apes and Zombies coming up and we can assume that there will be allied Heavy Rangers (like Ozz 117). So what will the Allies field to counter the Zombies? Perphaps a British Allied unit of some type?

While I'm speculating, I would think the next expansion would introduce:

a. The Zombies?

b. Air Power / Anti-Air

c. A new Faction? Doubtful until they fill some gaps in for the first two armies.

d. German Hero "Angela" (as we know at least a prototype was made)

We really need aircraft rules to complete the games rules set especially as we have anti-aircraft walkerd due in June, and therefor need aircraft and/or rocket troops.

The way it looks new faction is next which is Russia. from what I can tell Aliens and Aircraft are tied for last.

Soviets haven't even been discussed by either AEG'sor FFG's timeline, unless you've seen something I haven't. By the old AEG direction which has been loosely followed, the Vrill should be the next faction.

actually , parente and or zamfirecue , DID say in an interview or post somewhere that i read that we would see the sinosoviets in a later "expansion" . and they also said we would see the japanese and british "represented" later on .

looking forward to the soviets and japanese

Yea I saw that too Kris, that was when they were discussing what Dust Tactics was when it came out. Plus they have a lot of soviet stuff out right now for Dust Models 1:35 scale and since its in 3D models they can easily scale them to any size they want and mass produce. Somewhere in the story the Allies and Soviets are somewhat allies and basically the cold war happens, except instead of casual fighting like our cold war it is a full blow war. I was also told that Britians and Japanese will not be another faction but subfactions of allies and axis. So I would assume from this you will be able to take them with your Axis or Allies depending on which one you choose. For all you old 40k players I think prob not like Daemonhunters or Witch Hunters but more like the Kroot for Tau. After all there are now just 3 nations in the Dust world. As for the Vrill I read some where that while the 3 nations are battling when the aliens invade.

Interesting. I wonder if the sub-factions will be a slight variation on existing squad types (for variety's sake) or be a whole new element to the game. I can see Dust making new 2-man specialist squads like Heavy (tri-pod) Machine Gunners and Mortars.

i think you are all missing the most obvious possible ramifications : NINJAS !!! or some such similar type unit . i would also expect their ranged attacks to be more limited by comparrison , but their CC attacks to be better .

in reality , the americans and germans are "sub factions" of the axis and allies . the sinosoviets should be a whole new faction all together .

so i dont think it will be a huge change , as much as just a representative showing . we could likly also see some french units as time goes on just based on there being such a huge section of french west africa .

though , i guess there could be a huge japanese showing since he is popular enough there to do their trade shows with his models .

NINJAS!!!!! Hopefully no pirates lol. Yea I already saw that coming but some of the pictures I've seen are Samurai like walkers. They are in the back of the Dust graphic novel. Not saying they look like Samurais but they have an appeal to that design. Also the Soviets dont really have any subfactions Chinese and Cubans. Both of which either mooched off of us or them. I would like to see the full extent of subfactions and have canadians and australians.

i dont see there being any subfactional showing in the sinosoviets , just based on their governmental methodology of forced intigration and repopulation .

while i would like to see some of the samuri type walkers , i doubt we will see any in the "official game , and suspect we will just see the standard german walker body with different markings and different weapns like the twin laser version shown in some of the other materials .

i also dont see the full subfactional showing for the canadians and australians , as they will probably get lumped together under the UK , and it would be interesting to see if we see any italian walkers , since parente is italian .

i do have one concern though , when this game started , they essentially had 6 products to release (1 starter , and 5 expansions ) . it all seems to be going really well . but not knowing what the nature of the contract is between DG and FFG , we are already almost half way through the 6 products , so what happens after that ? i am hoping there is a long term plan in place , but with DTM making models without cards , and FFG owning the rights to the game , how smooth will things go after the last expansion ?

at the current rate , we have about a year till the last units come out , then what ? it takes time to plan and sculpt and produce anything new so ...........................

i would hate to see this game die because of a contract issue between 2 companies , and while i know we can always buy the models and make our own stats , having to house rule so much , would eventually lead to further disentigration .

I would assume that FFG and Dust Tactics thought of that but I am not sure. Also I read somewhere that the expansions aren't the only ones coming out just thats what they have developed so far. We are not half way there though. As of the end of June we will be 2 of 6 expansions. Personally I think if they're going to do expansions they need to make them as big as blue thunder. 1 extra walker and hero and 3 extra units(2 of which are in the same box and the other comes with a blue thunder squad) doesnt cut it for me as an expansion. I hope Seelowe has more than they are currently showing and it drags out the release dates longer than Cyclone.

what 6th expansion ? , i am only aware of 5 .

lol My bad I counted Blue Thunder for some reason. But I was told they will come out with others and they are coming out with campaign rules.

Couple things:

Ninja....I was thinking they could do a spy unit/duo Some unit that can not get targeted unless within 2 squares of the enemy.

While they are cranking out new units now, they may also be developing future as well. It would be best (IMO) to keep a steady supply of units, heros, and expansions even if it is on the light side. Better than rushing everything out the door, waiting to see how sales go, and then gearing up to make more which may take a year or more and kill interest.

I wonder if FFG and DT work together as partners or contractually? I would hope there are things in place to prevent Dust from being killed even if FFG and DT arive at an impasse.

-Jeff

I would also like to see some terrain to add a little something to our games. I have seen it sold on another site and can not help to think of how it would add an extra something to this already great game. As for what the future holds, one can only hope more of "Dust Tactics".

Game on;

-John-

Heres my toughts I belive FFG/DTS is waiting to see how well things go before comitting further resouces to the game my guess is Op Selowe will be the halfway point if all goes well then we will probably see further expansions after Op Downfall at least thats my assesment of the situation I hope if not then oh well it was fun while it lasted until then see you on the battlefield.

End of Line....
