Speculations about Shiffting Shadows 2011

By ffgfan, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Ok, so only a week from now and Omens Of War will hit stores (can't wait gran_risa.gif ).

And I also got a news that Black Fire Pass should be avalaible on 12th July 2011, so I hope that there will be no delays about it any more. If everything will go good then maybe next week we will see the announce.

Ok, so I think it's time to speculate about future. So here's my list of speculations:

- Slaanesh (that one is confirmed) with two book inside and a lot of new cards, carrers and so on. It will be published the same way as other big boxes about Chaos so there will be no suprise in it.

- High & Dark Elves - that will be a must have expansion. In my opinion, based on images from the end of the seminar from 2010, that one will come. And it will have two books one about High Elves and the other about Dark Elves. With some extra careers for HE characters and a lot of stuff about those races.

- Athel Lorien - an adventure that would be published just like Black Fire Pass. One book could be about Wood Elves for GM and Players, and the other with an adventure for those. We could also have some extra careers for Wood Elves as well.

- Adventures Guide - an expansion that could introduce Halflings. We could also get in it some extra tables with names, birth locations for players and more details about the Empire.

After this it would be great to see some supplements focused on enemies races like Skaven, Greenskins or Vampires.

In my opinion all those are possible.

A week? Where did you pre-order your copy?

I think it's more that it started shipping the beginning of last week.

This topic was not made to discuss Omens Of War, but in my opinion it will be in stores this or next week. Look at the upcomming page - it started shipping on 18th so plus 10 days it will be avaliable on 28th April 2011.

I was also wondering about will we see a next demo adventure or a free adventure this year?

Becouse I'm sure that we will see a new Shiffting Shadows 2011.

You're from Poland, right? gui%C3%B1o.gif

W jakim sklepie zamawiales?

Cheers

I made this topic to discuss Your thought about what will we see in the Shifting Shadows 2011.

Also to introduce my ideas and thought about what will come up this year and to summer 2012. Could we please talk about that and not about where we are getting Omens Of War (there another topic for that one).

I also shared a rumour that i heared about the release of Black Fire Pass. This exciting adventure that is focused on Dwarfs should be avalaible on 12th July 2011. Let's hope that this will be true becouse the demo adventure was a published almost a year ago (in july 2010).

The release plan for WFRP 3ed will not change in my opinion so after a sourcebook we will be getting an adventure and so on.

Going back to my list of speculations:

Slaanesh expansion - the last of Chaos main Gods. As we all know it will be published the same way all other were. So in a box wewill get two book, a lot of new cards, 10 new carrers and so on. In my opinion, and I think not only my opinion, this will be focused on Nobles in the Empire and social encounters. I think that we could see it in September 2011 in stores. Maybe even at GenCon2011 will be some copies or it will be showed to public.

Athel Lorien - I don't know how You but I would love to see it. This could be an adventure in the same format as Black Fire Pass. But it would focus on Wood Elves. I think, based on my players, that many do not know how to play a Wood Elf and we need more knowledge about them. So such a adventure would be amazing to see. We could also get some extra careers for Wood Elves. This would have two book in it - one about Wood Elf and there beloved forest Athel Loren and the other for the GM - just a adventure and some more informations that players should not know.

Adventures Toolkit - we also need a good expansion about the Empire it self. So this would be a great oportunity to also include Halflings. This expansion could have the descriptions of major cities of the Empire, provinces and so on. This could have two book. First one would be for player & GMs with some more detailed information about the Empire, we could also get some list of names examples, birth locations for players so they can make more individual characters. The second book would be for GMs only with some specific information, detailed cities descriptions with maps and a small adventure. This would also have specific careers for each province and some unique creatures like Fimir that only exist in Cursed Mashes.

High & Dark Elves - this could be and adventure set in Ulthuan or in the Empire. With two books - one about High Elves (becouse it would be good to get more information about them) and the second with an adventure and detailes about Dark Elves. I thought about this after looking at the images s from the end of the Small But Vicious Seminar 2010.

Chaos Chosen expansion - Slaanesh will end the "Chaos Gods cycle" of expansions. So after it WFRP 3ed should get something new. And many of palyers asked for it so maybe we will see it in the future. An expansion about the Norsce and that will let the players to play as Chaos desciples. With some specific Chaos carrers and so on. This could also be a start of expansions that would let player take the role of some evil races like Skaven, Greenskin or Vampires.

Of coure those are just my thought and pure speculation. We will see what the future bring. But in the future I'm sure we are going to see some supplements focused on enemies races like Skaven, Greenskins or Vampires.

I don't know how You but I can't wait to see Shiffting Shadows 2011.

I think we're getting at least one "major" (The Gathering Storm kind of major) campaign for higher level characters.

Moving to other provinces than Reikland seems plausible but extending the game world further seems not (at least for now). If and when we get this kind of thing I believe it to be in the line of current products - a campaign at the edges of Athel Loren as said or (at least to me more likely) a collection different things in a larger box without much info. As someone pointed introducing halflings as playable race would introduce a problem as there's no given cards/careers for them.

Most interesting to me is whether they continue the "lite line" at all. The current Guides are already outdated and every expansion makes them even more so. I really like the "lite line"-idea but the books are quite unnecessary for someone who already has bought all the expansion. What I would like to see is a WFRP1 like of tome with all the rules and such in one binding. I hate to travel with the game as it takes an enormous amount of space... Let's just hope there is(n't) a "Warhammer Tool Box" coming "where you can easily fit all of your products". :D

Hmmm... I don't know that Black Fire Pass will be an adventure box as say Edge of Night was. I have a feeling it will appear more like a Campaign/Setting box like The Gathering Storm - though perhaps more setting than Campaign. I believe we're expecting a 2 book format, 1 dwarf and 1 greenskin no?

I agree that Slaanesh will obviously be the next expansion - I see it expanding the social/political characters and I think someone pointed out that addiction might be a possible theme?

After that, my money is on another adventure like witches song rounding out the year for christmas but I really hope they produce a Wood elf supplement because that would round the parties out nicely.

Anyone know how FFG plans to deal with Higher level options? Will there be another Winds of Magic & Signs of Faith [Gale of Magic, LED blinker of Faith?] or will they produce a High Level expansion that will gather in all the top-level careers?

Being new to WFRP, anyone know if we can expect the career lists to constantly expand as the game grows or will we see a gradual decline of the number of new careers until we get 1 maybe 2 per expansion?

I don't think 3rd ed. is built to go much further than rank 3, considering you can only have 3 in your skills. When you get past rank 4 you can deal with the toughest monsters in the game.

I disagre with that - there are many careers that have - Any Race printed on it. So After thay would introduce halfling they would just have to make some careers for them and in the future halfling would be mantion on careers. I don't see the problem here.

The problem with characters above Rank 3 is a small problem. But still I would like to see some really advanced careers. And that's not true there are no such careers now - look in to the Omens Of War - Preceptor is Rank 4 becouse to be him You have to finish Knight and Knight Of The Inner Cycle and those all are advance. So this gives me hope to see a really high level characters as playable.

PS. I just hope to see the announce of Black Fire Pass next week. To know more about this one read here:

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=149&efcid=3&efidt=443134

There's nothing preventing further ranks from being developed. But there are caps to characteristics and how much you can train a given skill.

I have no problem with that. I personally don't see the appeal in having characters become epic level gods who can smite the toughest of creatures in a blow or two. They're still humans, dwarfs, elfs, or potentially halflings.

For my own wishes, I want to see a supplement covering more underworld types and with loads of social actions, enhanced social intrigue rules, etc. Fences, criminal bosses, more merchant types, gang leaders, etc. I'd love to see some more details around medicine of the Old World.

I am not a fan of race-based supplements, but would rather see that material brought into more general supplements, but it seems like I am in the minority on this board.

It would be very trivial to have an Empire sourcebook ala The Old World Armoury + Sigmar's Heirs that details the other human "races" from the other provinces. They might even include Ogres as a creature.

I'd like more robust necromancy rules/spells and undead.

I'd love to see a higher level magic system implemented with rituals re-introduced for very powerful long-term spells.

First: Obviously Slaneesh Box.

Then there will be another adventure.

I think we can expect a campaign setting like Black Fire Pass about Elves too.

Then I think they have to put out something describing the Empire or at least parts or certain cities in it. Because:

They certainly will begin an epic campaign about the Storm of Chaos. There are already some hints in Signs of Faith, and we also have Omens of War, so the War shouldn't be far.

What I would very much like to see is:

-- Marienburg campign setting box

-- greenskin box

I love 3rd edition BUT.........

Look all these expansion shave been great. I have picked up many of them...

It is also irritating me. Every so often we get a supplement with some fluff, some possible new rules in different books. I get irritated that I have to keep consolidated piles of books around. However, I really do not want any more supplemental rules. I want to see real campaign setting stuff, or some real modules. I do not consider anything released TGS or Witch Song whatever, to be real fleshed out adventures. They are simply modules. There is no overarching modules going on right now. AKA Against the Giants for example from the old DnD days. There is nothing tying this altogether. I would really like to see that. I am pretty sure i don't need more standups. I don't need more chits. I LOVE the ones I have. I want to use them in some epic stories. Also...This is another complaint..I am a little tired of adventures in the back of various rule books. I want the, in their own book! I am the sort of GM who hunts and pecks pieces from modules to flesh out my own. The system is irrelevant, its the characters and ideas that matter. The supplements would have been better served if they put all the fluff and rules in one book, and then the adventure in another.

I'm guessing here, but I think what we're seeing is a simple attempt to sell every product to both the GMs and the much, much larger portion of the market, namely the players. Traditionally, the majority of supplements for most games have been sourcebooks and modules, which are mostly bought by GMs, a fraction of the potential audience. Make supplements friendly to both groups, with the emphasis on players (hence all the new player options), and you'll shift more copies and hopefully make more money. If that is the strategy, it is a logical one, but that doesn't help those of us who are not inspired by rules.

I don't know, this seems kinda cynical.

I have never interpreted the need for a career sheet per player...in fact I think it's a better game if you can't have 4 Dwarf Troll Slayers in a party.

When you look at it like that - there is no need for anyone other than the GM to have the supplemental material. I think the extra careers etc. are a good reason to buy the supplements but only really 1 per group...

I like the multi-aspect formant. To be honest - I would probably not buy a supplement just about Nurgle...I don't know Warhammer world lore enough to know about the importance of Chaos gods. I DID want a supplement with more Faith options...then I started to read the Nurgle info...the disease cards... WOW! The nurgle information is almost my favorite part of that supplement! The multi-aspecting works not only to sell the supplements but also encourage customers to expose themselves to new things...well in my case it did! gui%C3%B1o.gif

I'm not convinced about this. Wood Elves have, looking at previous Warhammer editions, a few iconic, specific careers - Waywatchers, War Dancers, Beast Friends (I think thats what they were called?). Two thirds of these are already out.

Dwarves have a TON of specific careers - hell, the slayer line alone has two more careers to be completed. Then you have Tunnel Fighters, Loremasters, Runners, Miners, you name it. In short, I don't believe the Wood Elves can justify an expansion on their own, as the Dwarves can.

Multiple aspects to the box sets is the only way they'll get me to shell out for dwarf or elf box sets. I have no real interest in Tolkien-derived fantasy races in any game (although Warhammer's are much better than most) and I generally disallow them in games I run. If they wind up doing a dwarf/something box or an elf/something box I would probably buy them.

So their tactic would work on me and I'd spend more money to help keep the game going.

If I remember correctly, the products from Shifting through Shadows 2010 should have been released in Winter 2010/11 and eraly Spring 2011. The Preview was released in August, before Edge of Night and Signs of Faith hot the stores. I thought it was meant to be a half year review. But as it turns out it was supposed to be the catalogue for the whole year. I find that quiet annoying, since I'm running out of patience happy.gif . We have only one supplement to go (Black Fire Pass) and still no Shifitng through 2011's Shadows. Why are they doing this to me? It's almost summer, the end is nigh, the suspense is killing me, I'm but a shadow of myself, and I NEED SHIFTING!!!

Black Fire Pass is listed for Q3 release, so we probably see that late July/early August, and then get the next "Shifting Shadows" during/after GenCon (August 4–7)

Actually, there are 2 supplements to go based on the 2011 shifting shadows and Jay's GenCon2010 ("A small but vicious seminar") video.

Black Fire Pass

&

Slaneesh supplement (which is very briefly hinted at at the end of Jay's Gencon2010 video)

If you look at the print dates of each booklet you can see that they were typically printed in months corresponding closer to the ends of each fiscal quarter, tack on a couple weeks for on-the-boat and then transit to stores and you end up hitting shelves that next month at the start of the next US Financial quarter (April for Omens of War for example).

So I would set your swatches to mid July in the US for BF Pass, and mid October for the as-yet unseen Slaanesh box. Earlier would be rad, but I am not holding my breath for June and September shelf dates.

In a dream world it would also be super totally radical to get a top secret brain buster of a WFRP release at Gen Con while I'm there this year...but...wish in one hand and <blank> in the other right?

I believe this counts as the first supplement of the new Shifting shadows. If we'll ever get one. Klugge is missing after all...

I really think they'll hold blackfire pass for gencon - same as they do for most RPG 3rd quarter releases - But that's ok... Omens of war has me satiated

Concerning Sausageman's reply about a " possible " Athel Lorne / Wood Elf supplement I'd have to mostly agree with him. Just look at how GW has neglected the army / race, however the amount of diversity can most definitely be found to satisfy hardcore Elf fans. But the supplemental format that has been used by FFG thus far leads me to believe that an "Athel Lorne" supplement would need an opposite or counterpart to fill out the overall information.

This could be done in several ways, the most likely of which I believe to be a Bretonnia box that includes new information about Wood Elves and the forest of Athel Lorne and its denizens. Although this is pure speculation, I see it as being viable. The Bretonnian's provide a chance to fill out the extra careers that Sausageman seems to think the Wood Elves lack. And with the new mounted combat rules and jousting mini~game this seems like a possible avenue to travel down.

I would love to see more information that delves into the setting more thoroughly and am not overly concerned if we get a Campaign or not. More setting information makes it easier to create your own stories and adventures so I feel that a book or box that deals with the World of Warhammer is essential. I own a ton of information about the setting already but I like the way FFG present their products and would love to see what they are capable of for something like this. I have a project in the works right now that loosely deals with this subject and it should hopefully see the light of day sooner rather than later. FFG if you are reading this I'm just saying I've got some really solid stuff. gran_risa.gif

I can definitely see a Storm of Chaos boxed campaign being in the works as the Ruinous Powers are being "gathered" one by one, similar to how Archaeon gathered the support of the Four to create an Undivided Horde. This would be pretty sweet, but I state once again that I'd like to see more Setting information published.

Lastly I'm in stitches waiting for more announcements from the mouth of Jay Little and a sneak peak into the products that loom on the horizon.

Looking at previous supplements and adventures and the forthcomig Black Fire Pass I presume that they will go for a combination of campaign and setting fluff and new rules. So we will see boxes with two books, one with the adventure part of the campaign and another with the setting/fluff/rules part. That way they would compel people who only want the fluff to buy the adventure too as they did with hedge magic in Witch's Song.

In stitches? I'm already skewered and frizzling over scorching flames of suspension!
