Top 5 of the new CP, HBO launch, and a female?- 2Champs1ChumpEp18

Our new episode is here. Also, you can use the itunes feedburner to subscribe, even though the new episode isn't quite showing up at the time of this posting.

So what are your top five cards from the Gates of Citadel Chapter pack? And what 5 cards do you foresee never using?

I can see Farwynd being used in Winter Resource Denial and with Saltcliffe on the newest Euron you've essentially given him vigilant in a Raider deck

Top 5

- The Laughing Storm ( broken not broken i don't care, its a great card)

- Daernys Targaryen (need her for a burn deck)

- Support of Saltcliffe (the greyjoy player in our group finally has a reason to play discard effects)

- Dragon Strikes (with the new unkneeling dragons thats a pretty solid event, also its replayable with a little help from street waif)

- At The Gates (so i just go get me a maester and put him into play)

I will never use Deep Den but thats just me

Top cards

1) At the Gates-Auto include. ~Soon we'll see this on the Restricted List because (a)it is too powerful and (b)everyone will run it and ©it will make all other search effects look bad in comparison. Just like the Fury plots. But untill then it will go in every deck. ~Looks like I'm back to choosing 6 plots again.

2)The Laughing Storm-Already had this conversation too many times. See the other threads where he's been discussed ad nauseam.

3)Widow's Watch-Now hopefully I won't draw the dupe after the character is dead. May get me back to running dupes more often.

4)Dany-This was the Dany Targ's been waiting for for since Winter rotated out. Useful in most builds. Crucial in Burn decks.

Cards I never expect to play.

1)Lucky Bones-Milling your own deck to draw seems pointless.

Everything else could see play in certain builds.

Overall it was a good episode. Enjoyed hearing Sarah's perspective on the HBO show. Can't wait to hear about your tourney.

My top five which I'm most like to play

1) Laughing strom, surprise surprise, he is just very powerful addition to my baratheon builds and in melee

2)At the gates, ok city plot that lets mee search for example Aemon as a claimsoak for free? or other good maesters or even OOH maesters.

3)Support of saltcliffe. I'm mostly a GJ player and I see this hard finally making mill useful, also thinking about a deck with kraken tattoo + alannys + this~

4)Beware the sphinx, this event will most likely end in my every maester deck as these packs keep on coming and we get more chains

5) Daven Lannister, really excited about this card, seems like a fun lannister unique character with interesting ability.

what I wouldn't play? I can see myself easily playin all of these cards, very good card quality on this pack I have to say.

Also I definitely would mill a card to draw a card, don't see much problem with that since usually my decks aren't looking for certain 1 card from the whole deck.

Fantastic discussion of the chapter pack guys. This was by far the best break down of a chapter pack. I really liked the incorporation of strategy + Q&A among you guys to help feel through how each card might be used.

Decent discussion of the HBO show as well. I agree with the intro “gears” animation. Strange stuff.

Overall really good episode guys…could be your best. Looking forward to the next one.

I love Copper Link. Trait manipulation is so versatile, even in a non-trait-manipulation deck (e.g. to nullify opponent's "while X controls no Y characters" or "while X is the only Y character in play" effects). Then again, I'm not a competitive player, but I think I understand how someone might not want to give it a slot, because its usefulness is situational.

I enjoyed the old "go through every card" way of analyzing a new chapter pack, but this new format is good as well, and certainly speeds things up a little and leaves more room for different sections in the podcast.

Haha, actually, her name's Kristen. Now I'll have to go hunting back through the episode to see if we accidentally use the wrong name and confuse folks. I'm sure we'll have her back sometime to get some perspective on getting into the game for the first time as well.

Glad to hear that folks are liking the change to the Chapter pack format. Let it never be said that we don't listen to good ideas in feedback. Lol.

So, I'm curious though, how other players react to Doran's Game? IE. Who sides with me, and who sides with Dobbler?

I can see Doran's Game in a maester/learned Martell build. When you cancel their cancel with it, and get to reuse their cancel

its just so much control it melts my face.

I'm still pretty solidly in the middle. I can understand arguments from both sides. Let me put it this way: It's something I want to use in many different decks, to see how it works out, but at the same time, I can imagine it being one of the first cards to be cut in each of those decks as well.

I think Doran's Game is a great ability, but very costly and is probably not making a lot of decks when there's so many great events that are less costly and need less setting up. Especially with Paper Shield returning.

I agree 100% with Dobbler. If a bunch of 0 or 1-gold characters with the learned crest come out, it could be a good card. And as is it obviously isn't terrible (very powerful effect). But given how situational it is...you have to have 1-2 mid-cost characters with crests standing AND then it's a response...the effect is MUCH inferior to other Martell events. Even Paper Shield, which is much easier to play and probably almost as versatile without a downside, is hard to fit in a Martell deck.

What exactly are you going to take out? Burning? Game of Cyvasse? Or are you just going to run a deck with 20 events? (Seems bad.)

Btw, I really like it when you guys raise thoughtful discussions like this and each of you weighs in. I wouldn't want you to do that for every card, or even more than a couple, but on the really thought-provoking cards where you have real disagreements, it's neat. It gives me a sense for how other players look at cards, and what they might be thinking based on differences in play style, etc.

Also (unrelated), it was nice to have a female voice on the show.

Sorry Kristen, not sure where Sarah came from.

Doran's Game could be sick in the right deck, not sold it's an auto-include in every Martell deck. Definitely better than the credit Greg gave it .
