Mass Intrigue on Malfi

By Diel Ulricsson, in Dark Heresy

Greetings all,

I am currently planning my next adventure in my long running DH campaign. Recently the players put an end to a rebellion on Ganf Magna incited by a priest led astray by an artifact given to him as part of a Chaos plot. Anyway, the players have traced the origins of this artifact back to a 'retired' Rogue Trader's estate on Malfi. However, they lack the proper evidence to call in a raid on the estate, so they must go in and attain said evidence.

Here in lies the problem. This Rogue Trader has a Rogue Trader's share of defenses and kit to keep his estate secured, but there is a way in for the Acolytes. He is holding a party - a celebration in the name of [iNSERT SAINT HERE] - at his compound, which will leave his estate vulnerable to being snuck into. The Acolytes just need an invitation.

As such, I basically want to run an adventure where the players must suck up to a number of nobles and attain an invitation to the party. To do this they will likely have to go undercover and do some acts which they otherwise would not normally do (considering there is a Sororitas in the party, this could prove AWESOME!) as well as being a source for some much needed Corruption!

My question is: What are some good starting points for information on Malfi, and are there any specific references or write-outs about some specific nobles/cults/groups on Malfi? I have access to all of the non-adventure books (but am away from home for a few days, so am away from my books) so any references to page numbers etc would be very helpful so I can read up on it.

tl;dr - What are some page numbers I can look up in any of the non-adventure books regarding Malfi?

Thanks!

The adventure in the Ascension book provides some detailed information on Malfi and its culture, which I found very helpful.

I am running a game in Malfi myself- and I tell you, its a pain: there's nothing really specific about it- and I looked: There's someone who did a nice write-up about the Planet (with a few detailed main hives) in the Fan Fiction section; but I ended up just making up my own hive. All in all, like everything else in Dark Heresy- its very vague: so you can do with it as you please.

... Heck, I couldn't even find the Capital of Malfi- if it had one, or you know, Major cities of Malfi- nothing really official on the town except for that one adventure and the blurb in the core rulebook: Wish they'd put out a book with some Info on a few choice planets, like Dusk and Malfi- I'd buy that.

Like Betho said, the Ascension adventure has a write-up: but I find its very centered on the adventure, and unless your planning on having stuff happen in that particular area, then the thing is more or less only useful for a) the few nobles there b) the description of noble relationships (but honestly, that's stuff you could have come up with on your: constant vendettas, dueling nobles, back-stabbing and poisonings, etc etc.)

Until then: I just made up my own Hive on the planet- Prudenza. Which more or less fit my needs. Not to mention that the game has barely started, and I have already made up Two nobles families (what with the 400 of them that constantly change) its very easy to introduce new nobles as the plot demands.

Yeah, I made up my own structures on Malfi too. I started out by dumping Hive Primus from Necromunda on Malfi, complete with all the noble and manufactoria houses, the merchants guild and those power structures. Lots of descriptions and background for free. Then I added some more of my own, and voila! A teeming world of backstabbers, Decadents&Deviants (with their Deviant Master) and intrigue.

Hmm, fair points... Now that I am home and after my own digging I can find very little as you say. I think I am going to model my Malfi off of the Borporian Hive on Hydraphur but with all of the back-stabbing turned up to 11. I am currently reading Legacy, so there is a wealth of inspiration. Thanks anyway everyone!

The Radical's Handbook has details on the "Tainted Blood of Malfi"- I don't have the book handy, so I'm not sure if this section contains much background info, but it should be worth a look.
