I was mulling over an idea for a mission for my Kill-Team and I'm trying to decide if I'm going a bit over the top on it or not, bassicly the main premise is that the DW has got word that there is an Etheral visiting an occupied Tau world, and that they are being sent to either capture or assassinate said target, when they are on world aswell they are to cause as much damage and havok as they can to try and weaken the Tau, either materially or resolve wise, you know over and above taking out an Etheral. So OTT or just the kind of crazy mission that the Deathwatch get sent on?
Mission Idea
Sounds about right; of course, the way you run it makes it all; you can go 'over the top' and have them drop pod in the middle of a Tau village the Etenral is visiting and have them shoot everything around them as the fire warriors try to mount a defence/counter-attack, or make it stealth, with them wearing scout carapace armour, taking discreed shots here and there, demolition work, choosing targets of opportunity, 'commando' style mission.
My Idea was to go Commando style
Would be an interesting and no doubt difficult mission due to the more actionable nature of most Space Marines but it is definately within the scope of the Deathwatch and a mission they would take.
Oh yeah- more discreed than your average kill-team mission, but nonetheless one of the many missions some Deathwatch Marines get sent on.
Might feel less glorious (since they will have to act like 'basic' Marine scouts) but if they play it smart they can blow crap up to high Heaven strong enough the Emperor will see the glare looking at space beyond Terra's atmosphere. I say run with it; it cuts fomr the regualr mission types, plus it mroe to play on fear/terror than direct damage on the Tau population
Well my idea was to have them insert and meet up with an Inquistors agent who is there co-ordinating Imperial Resistance planetside, who will give them the low down of the Etherals location, and other pertient information. Objectives would be Kill/Capture Etheral, Kill Tau Commander, Knock out their ability to mount air defence (for extraction purposes), aswell as the chance to decimate Imperial defectors and regain a Relic of a chapter(Space Wolves for one of the players).
I was also wondering if there would be a chance the Tau may have dealing with CSM, Fallen in particular (I have a DA Initiate of Secrets) and I would like to add a hook to earlier and later missions. I also need to add some flavour for my Storm Warden Tech Priest.
Have you read the Maneater post. He ran a mission like the one you are trying to do.
i was thinking of random encounter checks on d100 rolls and the same idea for weather effects..to add more realism to some of my games, any ideas??
