KUBLA!!!

By 9thimmortal, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Okay, I couldn't find the Kubla thread (was it just buried in the normal thread), so thought I would make another.

We have Bruno and Dobbler now. The new LA meta sounds promising...

I get in Thursday early afternoon (after making either Bruno or the taxi go get groceries/booze). Jesse (Wyndwalker) and Dobbs get in about Midnight. Everyone else? Anyone talked to the Bara Brothers (Kevin and his bro)?

Lastly, I will be bringing my cube for cube draft. I think I need some older plots, so will post those in the next couple of days. On top of aGoT which I wll be playing a ton, I will be bringing 1. Warhammer LCG, 2. LoTR LCG, 3. L5R, 4. Full Metal, 5. Harry Potter just in case Black Sword needs a beatdown. lengua.gif

ROLL CALL!!!!

lol... There hasn't been a Kubla post yet... but this is a good start!

I'm looking to arrive by 2pm on Friday afternoon. I'll have Crevic and Bronson with me, and we'll be meeting RyanSD up there. So, 4 in total from the San Diego crew.

I'll let the Bay Area guys post the details.

Oh, and I will be running the Maester's challenge once again this year, but will probably only include the Saturday events in it. More details to come...

I am really excited for Kubla! (Who's not?)

I have been to Kubla for the last 2 years, and I help represent the Chico, CA meta. We are bringing 5-10 people to Kubla this year. I am also the CCG coordinator for the convention, so if you want more events added, or have any questions, let me know.

Here's a list of the current events scheduled for Kublacon:

A Game of Thrones - Chosen Few - Run by Joseph Kreins - SAT 7:00 PM - Ballrm-C
A Game of Thrones - LCG Regional Championship (Joust) - Run by Lucas Sydlaske - SAT 10:00 AM - Ballrm-C
A Game of Thrones Draft - Run by Lucas Sydlaske - FRI 5:00 PM - Harbour-A
A Game of Thrones LCG - 2v2 Event - Run by John Deatrick - SUN 5:00 PM - Ballrm-C
A Game of Thrones LCG Melee - Run by Daniel Machado - SUN 10:00 AM - Ballrm-C
A Game of Thrones: LCG Open Gaming - Run by John Deatrick - MON 10:00 AM - Ballrm-C

That's pretty much nonstop thrones all weekend long, if you want to do nothing else. Also, here is the Warhammer: Invasion LCG schedule:

Warhammer: Invasion LCG for Beginners - Run by John Deatrick - SAT 6:00 PM - Ballrm-C
Warhammer: Invasion LCG Regional Championship - Run by John Deatrick - SUN 5:00 PM - Ballrm-C

We are going to have a great turn out this year. I'm looking forward to it and to taking Rings down...apparently he doesn't think I earned my last years Kubla Championship gui%C3%B1o.gif lol

But this year we will have to do a 3 Champs (Bruno, Rings and Dobbler) and 2 runner-ups (Deathjester and Cha0s) pod cast while Dobbler is here!

I will email Kevin this week to see if I can get him to come out.

KUBLA!!!!

Announcing the return of the annual West Coast Regional Championships at KublaCon. We again return to the shores of the San Francisco Bay where the best in the west will pit themselves against each other for the chance of glory and the spoils of competition.

From Friday May 27 - Sunday May 29 players will compete in no less than 5 organized Game of Thrones events, including the West Coast Regional Championships. All five events will be held at the KublaCon gaming convention in Burlingame, CA (just South of San Francisco). Details about the location, cost to attend the con, hotel info, parking, food, etc can be found at KublaCon's website : www.kublacon.com

All five of the events are free! The only cost is the price of the badge for the convention. Not only does this badge get you free admission to all Game of Thrones events, but it allows you to participate in hundreds of possible gaming opportunities at the con. Check the website for your preferred poison (but really, who wants to play anything but Thrones?).

Here is the rundown of official events:

Friday 5pm-11pm : Classic Format Draft

We will be drafting from multiple sets of Classic "black border" cards, and every player will supplement their drafted cards with a custom draft pack of basic resources, character and plots. This is the one format where you need absolutely NOTHING to play. All cards are provided in this extremely fun format. Come out and test your play and deck building skills!

Saturday 10am-6pm A Game of Thrones LCG Regional Championship (Joust only)

This tournament will be a head-to-head format event, with a series of swiss pairings followed by a cut to top 8 and single elimination. Prize support includes A Game of Thrones product, original artwork, card art prints, and much more. This is an LCG only tournament, which means no cards before the 'A Clash of Arms' chapter pack series are legal. Standard deck building rules apply. Check the Fantasy Flight Games website for the most up-to-date FAQ and rules clarifications prior to the tournament date.

Saturday 7pm-11pm Chosen Few Limited Card Pool Tournament

"A Game of Thrones - Chosen Few Format". Will be based on the Chosen Few deckbuilding restriction contest. Info on this unique deck building experience can be found here: www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp

This is a Joust format event, and we will cut to top 4 or 8 for single elimination depending on attendance.

Sunday 10am-4pm A Game of Thrones LCG Melee (Multiplayer)

This tournament will be a multiplayer format event, with a series of rounds consisting of tables of 4 players, followed by a cut to the top 4 Final Table. Come test your diplomacy and cunning against the field in a format where anything can happen!

This is an LCG only tournament, which means no cards before the 'A Clash of Arms' chapter pack series are legal. Standard deck building rules apply.Check the A Game of Thrones FAQ prior to the tournament for any rules clarifications or updates.

Sunday 5pm-10pm A Game of Thrones 2v2 Tournament

You and a friend can dominate the playing field in this exciting 2v2 format. The only difference between this and regular games is that it will be 2v2 (match-ups will be determined per Joust rules). First team to 30 combined power wins the game. Both players have to run different house cards and cannot run the same agenda. Other than that, it is up to you! Standard deck building rules apply. Check the updated FAQ prior to the tournament date.

Additional/Non-Scheduled Events

In addition to the above scheduled events, there will be open play on Monday morning from 10am-2pm. Also, former World Champion Rings is bringing all manner of additional fun, including a CUBE draft. I will leave the details to Rings, but I am envisioning a ruckus of a good time.

You will probably find many players willing to play pick-up games as well, seeing as some people will be arriving on Thursday. This is the most jam-packed schedule we have ever had at Kublacon, so get excited, get your decks built, and get your ass to Burlingame for the best 3 days in gaming on the West Coast.

*** One important note: Due to the nature of so many events running back-to-back, the need to start events and matches on time is critical. As a result, if you arrive late to an event, you may not be accommodated. We don't foresee this being an issue, but there it is all the same...be on time! To incentivize this, there will be a special "punctuality" prize for the player that consistently shows the greatest respect for time!

Thanks for the Info Syd of House Arryn!

I am going to plan to drive up on Friday and make it for the Draft but as I have said its a tough weekend for me. Nonetheless with all the star power there (Bruno, Rings, Dobbler) I am going to make an extra effort to make it ...currently at 75%. While I miss all my old Threat from the East Bay Area meta and look forward to catching up with you all, I will be repping our new Free City of Lost Angeles meta along with Mathlete ;P

Thanks Syd!!! I know how much work this can be (I ran Kubla a few times in the past, as did Mathlete I think), and we really appreciate it. Hopefully I didn't steal your thunder, I just am so excited gui%C3%B1o.gif

Chaos, you certainly deserved to win! I was just kidding... You beat Kevin, which for some reason I could never do (the best player to play in one tourney all year in the country for my $$ - he usually doesn't even bring a legal deck and still wins with it thrown together).

I guess I should also make a note to anyone who is considering coming, but might not be able to afford it:

We are accepting volunteers for several 4 hour blocks during the convention.

Friday 6-10

Saturday 10-2, 2-6, 6-10

Sunday 10-2, 2-6, 6-10

Monday 10-2

If you volunteer for 2 slots (8 hours) during the convention, I will guarantee you free admission to the convention, plus I believe I will be able to give you a volunteer pin for your efforts. See the pins here: http://www.kbgames.com/kubla_pins_detail.html. This also goes for the GM's who run the events. You will pay admission normally and will be refunded by me once you've successfully helped us out.

Actually Kevin plays in two tourneys Kubla and CaliCon ;p

Looking forward to attending the Khan of Cons!

Looking forward to this, definitely. We should get 20+ this year easily.

Definitely came back from my hiatus in time.

I'll be there. If any of you remember me from the 2007 Con, I'm Garrett. I'll probably end up doing a "work from home" day to show up for the draft on Friday.

Nice so we have many metas representing for Kubla. I count : East Bay, Chico, SacTown, new LA meta, San Diego, Nebraska, and whatever Dobbler's meta calls itself + a splattering of freeriders from the peninsula and Santa Cruz area. Should be great times for all.

Who will win the Drunker than Robert Baratheon Award?

Should we make a bet with NYC for who gets more players again??

I actually have a feeling we'd lose this year unless we get a lot of first timers to show up. ~So as long as we get a Sansa prize...

Yeah, it is a good smattering of people from a lot of different places. Can't wait!

I will try to keep my drunkeness down to a management level. ~At least not get my booze taken from me at 1.00am like GenCon. :)

Awww, I was hoping for a strong NYC turnout for good competition. Our California meta has attracted many new players recently and never been so active since the CCG days.

I'm sure rings or syd could come up with a good Sansa prize though. :)

We should have a competition with NYC again, and losers can buy lunch at Gencon.

I am considering making an appearance

I'm not sure we'll have the big DE group we were hoping for...it seems like there still may be some frustration about the recent FAQ (and how it hits Bara kind of hard). In short, you guys most definitely will win, but we'll do our best to get a larger turnout anyway.

Either way, it's not about numbers... ~we already know which regionals will host the better players (let the smack-talk begin!)

Is this REALLY Newport Harry? Really? Or some Sactowner trying to be cute? gui%C3%B1o.gif

If it is really you NPH, it will be great to see you again! Just like the first Kubla tourney ever (2002?). All five of us gran_risa.gif

Seriously though, I hope you have a ton. And we will have three World Champs, four total titles, probably 10+ final fours. You might have one (albeit the last one) unless Sith comes out of retirement. ~So there.

It is like if Kentucky, UCLA, and Duke put their basketball players together and went against George Mason. lengua.gif

Its really me :P

I've been trying to find a way back in to gamin for a while but havent been able to find a game or group. I'm moving to Las Vegas that may just be a stop ever to move to LA. So I f can find people to play with in LV I'll definitely be back, and may anyway even if I have to go to LA to play.

Either way I may just come out to Kublacon to play board games and get my nerd on again.

Awesome NPH! There is getting to be a pretty big group in LA of course, I haven't ever heard of anyone in LV though...too many other things to do I guess lengua.gif

See you @ Kubla.

First regional at Kubla was, I think 2004. The year before was held at Gator Games in San Mateo, where the organizers wore those amazingly bright orange t-shirts and my then meta found out the hard way about what sets were legal gran_risa.gif Can't wait to see folks this year and re-invoke some good times.

I don't think so - we are talking about Kubla, no Regionals. All that was legal was Westeros and Sea of Storms. It was only me, NPH + girlfriend, and Erwo plus TheKingg. The only games Erwo or Kingg won were against each other happy.gif

The game was released in 2002, so I think it must have been 2003. We got more in 2004 and it grew from there.

This year might actually set the attendace record. Right before rotation we had a ton that year (I think Bruno put it on) - maybe 2007?
