Spending Advancements?

By snilax, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hello everyone. I'm a bit new to RPG's but I've been playing Warhammer for a few months now and my friends and I were basically playing a scaled down noob version of the game and learning stuff as we go. I've got a ? about advancements in a career. I know it takes 10 advancements for a career. What I want to know is that on the career card at the bottom left is the advancements box. Can I make an advancement if it says Wounds 0 for that career for example. And if I did, would it count toward my advancements to complete my career or can I just make any 10 advancements toward completion of my career.

I also had another ? about spending advancement toward skills. I read that you can only do 1 per rank. Is this true? And if so, how do i get a specialization in a particular skill?

Thanks.

The easy answer to your first question is Yes.

Every time you enter a new career you have to complete all four General Advances and six Open Advances to get credit for completing the career and gaining its special power/ability/item/pet/whatever. Actions, Talents, Skills and Wound Threshold are the four general advances you have to do somewhere along the way IF you are planning on completing the career. If your career has an option for additional wounds in the Advancement Box on the front of the career card then you can pick up additional wounds as Open Advances if you want. They set the advancements up that way so that you could have some variability from one Boatman to the next.

To answer your second question, you can only train a skill once per rank, but you can acquire a specialization in a skill with an advance (either General or Open). So if you trained Skullduggery at character creation you couldn't train it again if you were in a career with that skill listed (bummer right?). You could, however, aquire the Specialization Skullduggery (Pick Pockets)...which will eventually lead you to getting a hook hand.

All that being said I am new to the system as well...so...hopefully I haven't steered you off a cliff preocupado.gif

Thanks for the information. It has helped me out alot. Looking forward to putting it into effect tonight. Thanks again.
