Lesser jobs and Profit Factor

By AkumaKorgar, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

Something that occurred to me while running my game is the question of how to handle small sums of wealth paid out as rewards for minor jobs done by PCs, jobs which don't necessarily warrant a full point of Profit Factor. A particularly good example of this are things like bounty hunting. There is an option of working as a bounty hunter implied in the game; after all the Arch-Militant can start with a dataslate of recent bounties and manacles in his gear if they so choose. However, given how much wealth a point of Profit Factor is meant to represent, it seems a bit ludicrous to imagine any one fugitive, pirate or heretic could possibly be worth so much - unless they were some kind of underworld kingpin, pirate lord or cult leader, in which case a full on Endeavour would be more appropriate.

Normally tiny sums of money, I just handwave away. A Rogue Trader PC doesn't need to make an Acquisition roll to get a beer, for example. He doesn't need cab fare and he doesn't need to make a roll for renting a room for a night. But it seems unfair to not hand out some kind of reward for smaller work like bounty hunting, or doing jobs as an assassin, obscura smuggling, what have you.

It occurs to me that some folks will feel that such small scale operations aren't appropriate for Rogue Trader, and I completely respect, and to some extent, agree with that view. At the same time though, I have a number of players who want to engage in small business transactions on the side, in their character's downtime. The only current idea I have is to hand out small allotments of Achievement points, anywhere from +10 or +25 to +50, to go towards their next Endeavour, representing cash that can be turned towards other pursuits. I'm not sure if that's satisfactory though.

I have the same idea with you, by giving extra achievement points towards one of their endeavours. And I think I will use it as well. :)

Hmmmm, but It's important to note that 100 extra achievement points IS one point of profit factor when cashed in (usually). So values around 50 and below is probably good.

Small sums of Achievment Points should do the trick.

The only other possibilty that comes to mind is giving a little one time bonus to the next Acquisition Check.

Ah, that's a good point.

Cool then, I think between those two it should work. Many thanks. :)
