i love this game but combat system is kinna dumb anyone have any ideas of a better home brew ones?

You can also look to the DQ3 page on BoardGameGeek.com (in its File section and the Variants subforum for the game) to find a few more... some of which are simpler still than the official variants. There are multiple options among all of these to find something that suits your standard group overall or any particular group gathered for one night.
