General questions

By ColtsFan76, in CoC General Discussion

I've poked around a bit but didn't find all my answers so I'll just post my questions here if you don't mind. happy.gif

I think I will like the LCG format because I want to get into a card game without dropping tons of cash. I have mostly investigated AGOT LCG and now have Dominion. But Overstock's pre-order price was too good to pass up so I am checking out this title in case they actually sell me the core set for $9.85.

So question 1: Is this a completely new break in the game or were previous asylum packs supposed to be a part of this new launch? (AGOT's latest chapter pack under the format is supposed to be 100% compatible with the new core set).

Q2: Is this just for 2 players? BGG entry says so but I see the old rules still up on the Support page show the CCG had multiplayer rules. Does the LCG go back to strictly 2 or is the option for 3+ available?

Q3: Are the cards in the Core set brand new or rehashes of previous cards? Is the border or card backing changing (in case the older CCG cards are compatible)?

Q4: How critical is buying multiple copies of the game (to get the full 3 cards) if you just plan to play casually with decks out of the core set?

Q5: have any pre-orders started shipping yet? Overstock still says pre-order. I am not sure on their policy for holding prices if they are wrong.

1. well the latest two asylum packs MoM and AH are both part of the lcg version of the game, and both were released before the coreset.

2. as long as you have enough cards for 3 fifty card decks and 3 story decks i dont see why you couldnt play with 3 players. so as long as everyone has a 50 card deck and a story deck i dont see why the mulitiplayer rules wouldnt still work.

3. everything but the 10 story cards are all reprints of older cards. everything thats lcg has the new card backs and the white borders. but if you sleeve all the cards you can still use the old ccg cards. same game different look.

4. hmmm i dont know. i dont think it would be that important if you and another person play from one coreset since it should be pretty balanced. but if you had 3 coresets you would be able to build a more consistent deck. i think thats more up to you and how much youre willing to spend i guess.

5. not that i know of. im still waiting for my pre-order too.........

Thanks!

1. Were these released specifically for the core set but just got released earlier than it did? Or was it designed for the CCG and LCG both? I guess what I am getting at is are they the same backs and borders as the LCG?

What exactly are teh Asylum packs for the LCG? The support page confuses me a bit. Going forward, do the Asylum packs just say "the Card Game" on them?

they have the same backs and borders as the coreset lcg cards. designed...... eek you ask a tough question haha. well one card from AH seems to have been designed before the 3x cause you need to have atleast two of them in play for its ability to trigger, which now with 3x that will be near impossible to pull off, 4x would have been hard enough.

the asylum packs that are lcg are mountians of madness and ancient horrors for now. but the summons from the deep set is lcg asylum packs of the future. so right now there are 3 sets (MoM, AH, core) out, but 6 more are planned in the summons set.

and the packs have the niffty lcg logo on them plus the text on the back of the box says call of cthulhu the living card game. so if you see them in stores its pretty clear.

Awesome, thanks!

The product page does make sense. I wasn't surte what 2 you were classifying as "out" - if you meant two series or 2 actual boxes. It does not seem like CoC is doing 6-deck series like AGOT is with their 6-deck Chapter packs.

Thanks again.

While I think you can play multiplayer still, I think FFG is getting away from that because it tended to be a slow, very bogged down affair.

No worries, in the city I live in, we're currently testing some new multiplayer rules that hopefully will make the game definitely viable in 3+ player environment (even the team games like 2v2 or more - similar to 2-headed giant in MtG and 2-headed oni in L5R). When we've refined/balanced out this idea I'll make sure to post the rules here. Maybe FFG will like them and make them official one day, you never know. :)
