Overlooked Cards and Forgotten favorites - 2Champs1ChumpEp17

By Dobbler, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

We update you on our contest entries as well as share some new bits

Listen here

So tell us some of the cards that you feel were once played alot (and are quite powerful) but have since been forgotten and rarely played

Of course, the downside of this episode is that everyone will start talking about their Forgotten Favorites, thus making them no longer forgotten and we can never have this segment again.

Looking forward to what you guys mention. On the flip slide, I wish some cards weren't looked at so much or could be forgotten lengua.gif

Good episode. I liked the combo's you guys had with those cards. Very cool.

Damon's cards were funny. He should do one for Fox and Darryl.

Not the best episode, but not the worst either. i was expecting quite a few more "overlooked" cards to be mentioned, but perhaps my definition of overlooked differs from the one that was used in the episode. There are a lot of "3 star" cards out there that should have 4 or 5 star status, IMO, but the show didn't really cover them.

By all means, send in suggestions to our email ([email protected]) for cards that you think are underrated. The plan was to make it a semi-recurring segment, so we purposely didn't cover everything that we might have yet. Don't want to use up all of our content at once!

Also, if you have a suggestion for a forgotten favorite, let us know!

I actually liked this one. I thought you guys did a good job of exploring some interesting card mechanics. Your clansmen discussion *almost* makes me want to try Lanni :P

There were a few side comments I thought were a little off-topic, but overall nice work (I think). I agree with Fatmouse that there is a lot you didn't cover, but then that's always the case, and I much prefer an in-depth discussion to a reading through a bunch of lists. Though come to think of it, a "top 10" for this could have been pretty interesting too. For example, a "Top 10 of the best 2-rated cards" or something.

I expect both the "Forgetten Favorites" and the "Rubies in the Ford" segments to not be long segments when we use them, but to instead explore 1-3 different cards and maybe last 10-15 minutes. And since most people enjoy more in-depth conversation, rather than superficial lists, I think we will probably stick with this.

I took a quick second listen to parts of the podcast and you guys did cover more cards than I remembered. I think I just zoned out a bit after the Hidden Vale discussion and the topic digressed into "Stannis" players and coming in 2nd at Melees lengua.gif

Some of the (Martell) cards on my list are Rumors of War, Maester of the Sun, and Arianne Martell.

Forgotten. Rumors saw play when it came out, but Martell has so many other potent events it doesn't see play anymore. The +3 STR and MIL icon can go a pretty long way though.

Overlooked. 2 for 2 bicon vengeful. That alone is decent. Tack on Maester and an awesome summer ability and I think he's solid. I suspect he'll become a big staple for Martell as SoO is released.

Forgotten (sort of). Arianne seems to make less Martell builds than when she first came out, despite having such a great ability and stats. She's actually one of my favorite cards from a design perspective. Very simple, but very good.

In my Martell submission for the contest, I used the sick, sick combo of Rumors of War + Arianne Martell + The Power of Arms. Keep in mind that with The Power of Arms, that's a +5 bonus. With Arianne, that's almost surely three kills.

i was always a fan of To the Spears, Arianne Martell Rumors of War and Posioned Knife

When I play Bara, I'm a huge fan of the fox's teeth, especially in melee. It's a great way of getting undefended challenges off if you go first (and especially in melee). Combo a couple of these guys with DoTN melisandre and Core Set Selyse and you'll be pulling off a lot of undefended power and intrigue challenges

By the way, I thought the episode was fine. Some of my forgotten favorites are:

First Mate - pretty useful for quickly whipping up a bunch of ships, if needed. Takes from discard pile too, so if they somehow discarded them, boom, it's back.

Dornish Chariot - This card is freakin' huge. Of note, it's also a siege weapon, for what that's worth.

Feral Pack - In a Stark direwolves deck, this card is simply broken. What's more, if you use Old Nan to give someone the Direwolf trait, you're well on your way to hosing every deck with deadly.

Besieged Shipyard - It's non-unique draw power for Greyjoy. It discards your opponent's power to boot. Strangely, can actually be used in a GJ Beric Dondarrion deck for when people try to put power on your house card.

S'all for now. There are tons more - just don't have the time!

Hey Dobbler,

Can you post your Podcast email or whatever email is the best to send in feedback/interesting submissions?

Thanks

Well there is only one of me Mystery Knights, but I kind of geeked out after just reading the third Dunk and Egg story and have some fun stuff to send in

Cheers!

Sorry to post so late. I listened last Saturday and thought I had posted, but obviously not. Good episode. Well done production wise and content wise. Really enjoyed the Forgotten Favorites.

About the "Overlooked cards", I wouldn't rate a niche, trait specific card much higher thatn a 2 because it's not gonna slot in most decks. To me, in order to rate a 3 to 5 it has to be able to run in most if not all decks in that House or all houses. Street of Steel is a 5. IT's efficient and slots in over 90% of my decks regardless of House. Beric Dondarion is a 4. A 4/3 tricon with renown slots in most decks. No negative traits, and a boon if you happen to have no power. He would be a 5 in a dedicated Brotherhood deck, but definitely a 4 in any deck. Core Set Ned would be a 3. Nice stats, traits and abilities. Not a bad card, but not the best version in the environment. Could put him in most Stark decks without skipping a beat, but still kinda vanilla. Cancel Ned is much better in most decks.

Any card that is trait dependent to be included in your deck doesn't get higher than a 2.9. and it had better be deck defining to get higher than a 2. Bloody Scourge would only get a 2.5 because I can't really slot it in any deck. If I'm not running alot of Boltons, it doesn't really work in the deck. In a Bolton deck it would rate a 4, but not an overall 4. So I understand why your overlooked card would rate low. Maybe you guys rate cards differently.

Anyway, liked the new segments and the show overall. Keep up the good work.
