Xenomic's Fanset #3 - Touhou: Perfect Cherry Blossom

By Xenomic, in UFS General Discussion

And now that I've been putting this off, time to get Set 3 of the Touhou series going!

Prismriver Sisters

This was actually a bit of a challenge to do. Originally, I was going to make it 3 characters on the same card (in other words, 3 different handsizes and vitalities), but decided to keep it as one character with 3 different abilities per character. In the game, the fight went differently depending on which sister you did the most damage with, making it possible to have completely different battles during the fight. And each Sister specialized in something, so to keep that in spirit, I made each one deal with something that the others did not, and tried to keep it in the same theme (one with Form, the 2nd with Enhance, and the 3rd with Response).

Ran Yakumo

Ran was an interesting character for me to try and work with. I wanted her to be different from Yukari and Chen, but be somewhat similar. In a way, it worked, but I also think that it didn't in a sense. In the games, even though I haven't REALLY managed to fight Ran too often, she's more based around tricks, much like Yukari is but to a far greater extent. She also specializes in tightening up the space making it harder to dodge danmaku heading your way. So, to go with the "trickness" of Ran, I decided to implement a specific mechanic to her dealing with difficulty.

Youmu Konpaku

Youmu is primarily based around speed and multiple bullets, so what better way to utilize Multiples and speed bonuses than with Youmu? Also, in SWR, Youmu also has one of the highest capabilities of reverseling just about any move the opponent does, which I saw was a perfect opportunity to utlize Reversals for once in the set.

Yukari Yakumo

The boss of the Phantasm Stage, and one of the most difficult bosses, if not THE most difficult boss, in the entire Touhou series. Yukari has the ability to manipulate borders, meaning she can easily make something disappear without even trying, transporting objects from one location to a completely different location, to even swallowing danmaku bullets and firing them back at her opponent. Here, I went with the resources mechanic to try and give Yukari a fresh feel. Yukari is also the ONLY character in the entire set that has the Infinity symbol, but considering how she's been around for 1400 some years, it's safe to say that it fits her well. Starting from her promo onwards, however, she loses the Infinity symbol for actual symbols.

Yuyuko Saigyouji

The final boss of the game, Yuyuko is a ghost who rules over Hakugyokurou, a section of the Netherworld, and is the reason for the events of Perfect Cherry Blossom. In the game, Yuyuko mainly focuses on limiting your movements by using smaller danmaku to prevent you from escaping quickly from the larger threats, mainly her butterflies (which, in the game, are pretty much giant balls of doom coming at you) and at the start, a giant laser beam of doom. However, the main focus here isn't on this particular aspect of Yuyuko, but her actual ability which she never uses, which is her ability to invoke death in mortals. Therefore, I used Death Tokens as a mechanic for Yuyuko, as well as an instant win condition, which may or may not need to be modified. I'll leave that up to the judges.

Promos

And of course, what is a set without its Promos right?

And with that, that marks the end of the Perfect Cherry Blossom set, and Touhou set #3! Hope you all enjoy, and looking forward to hearing from you all ^^
