Some basic questions from an experienced roleplayer who traded in all my 4th edition stuff

By Shadrackc, in WFRP Rules Questions

Have the core set as well as all the add ons, but have been reading the players guide as it is better laid out with more examples.

One area that I found confusing is in the combat examples, on page 86 there is listed a wound/critical card that is "Painful Blow" which lists "Your physical checks gain: (bane symbol) The GM may add or remove one recharge token from one of your recharging cards.

Why would the GM want to remove a recharge token, and why do they have the bane symbol. Does that mean on future bane symbols? Confused.

Also, when a delay symbol is roled, the GM has the option of placing 2 recharge tokens on one of he characters action cards. So can this be an action card that is not in play, from the example on page 84 it looks like it.

There are several cards that have the text "while this card is recharging..." and the character gains a bonus from them as long as they are recharging. Removing tokens means that they recharge faster and the bonus for the character ends.
As I am not home I cannot be a 100% sure but I believe that for example "Berzerker Rage" adds damage bonus to all attacks while the card is recharging, the GM could then remove tokens from this card to end that effect earlier (thus lowering the damage output of the character).

The text means that on all physical checks untill you get rid of the critical card will have this line, so on all actions involving STR, TO or AG the GM may add/remove recharge tokens if a bane is rolled on the check.

Yes, and in many cases that is a great thing to do (I like putting them on active defences for example). It messes more with the player than just adding some to one that's allready recharging.

Great. Much appreciated.

I'll tell you, this so beats phoning up game designers and paying long distance to get questions answered pre internet days!

Agreed, forums are among the best ways of getting answers to difficult questions. It's cheaper than phoning, more fun and it allows players/fans to engage with each other. In the pre-internet era discussing role playing games were almost only done with the local gaming group(s). This is much better. :)

Good luck with the game! :)
