Two vexing items:

By LETE, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

Hello!

Warning, Noob question ahead!

I can't find the descriptions for these items:

A sepulchre (from the missionary's starting gear) - maybe this is some sort of vessel/case for a relic or a religious icon (a pict/painting)?

A blessed ship's token (from the void master's starting equipment) - is this some kind of charm (ie, uses the "rules" for charms?)

What are these?

Thanks!

L

They're just fluff items. No real purpose save what the players give them. Possibly the ship's token is an access pass to his home-ship's maintenance ducts, while the sepulchre is a shard of masonry from an Imperial saint's tomb.

I'd say you could easily treat the ship's token as a charm - it fulfills the same function, i.e. has the same meaning for the character, doesn't it?

I use the ship token as a charm too. After all, Ive seen a few carreers already in WFRP 2 starting also with a lucky charm like this...

The "cosmetic" items are charms. Hallowed objects in the Imperium, whether through a misunderstanding of how technology works (machine spirits) or archeotech, often have effects which are indistinguishable from magic and are thought to carry a fraction of the power of the Emperor within them. See your Rogue Trader corebook for how GM's should treat these items, if at all. Personally, I do like to use cosmetic items as a way of fleshing out a character, giving them a bit more depth to them. But if you're playing with min/maxers or combat jockeys who don't even care if their character has hair, they're irrelevant.

Hey, no real Rogue Trader character cares if they have hair!

Because that would require taking of their cool and fancy hats, and what is a Rogue Trader character without their fancy hat?

What does hair matter, if you never see it anyway?

It is a commonly known fact that most of the famous Primarchs of the Space Marine Legion had long flowing Van Halen hair.

But Primarchs dont carry puny Helmets. Neither do Space Marine sergeants for that matter. Unless its an army played by me ^^; i dont want no stinking faces to paint, and i prefer that this should not happen in the fluff: "Just aim for the guy without a helmet and the back banner, its the sergeant for sure!"

Every self-respecting Rogue Trader should always carry a suitably piratey hat. Only expection is if your hair is sticking out underneath the hat, eg Jack Sparrow. If youre the more Imperial Navy type, i suggest a suitable hat replacement in form of a military cap. No hair, unless its cut short though.

My Explorator never takes of his robe either. Although he definitely has no hair left, since the back of the head is all reserved for various cerebral implants.

Jepp as far as i could figure out its another word for a reliquiary. At least I'm pretty sure its not a lavish tomb or the grave of the Messiah (which are other meanings i stumbled upon.)

Also we had some amusing thoughts about a transportable grave the Missionary could be carrying all the time. Or his own reserved resting place on a shrine world waiting for his remains (if any can be found). Maybe an ecclesiachy version of a health-plan for the future martyr.
