Skill Check Question

By Gravnos2, in Battlestar Galactica

Hello all!

I'm prepping for our first game, and we are all super excited about it- I'm just trying to take in all the rules so I can teach everybody else.

When you do a skill check, it says to move 2 cards from your destiny deck to a common pile. Are these the 2 cards the current player used in the rule book on page 17, or are those skill cards they played from their hand?

I'm curious where those 2 destiny cards go/are used to.

The two cards from the Destiny Deck represent an extra uncertainty factor. They are played in addition to the cards players throw down in a skill check. After all cards are played (face down unless there's an Investigative Committee), shuffle them together before revealing them. That way if any negative cards show up in the mix, you can't know definitively that there is cylon influence at work (it could just be bad luck that they are in there). This protects a cylon player, because if accused of tossing in a card to make the check fail they can always blame fate.

On the other hand, if three negative cards pop up in the check, you know for a fact there's a cylon at work... so it's in a cylon's best interests to pick and choose which checks they want to fail unless they are prepared to get caught eventually.
