Elusivity, or the art of elusive monsters

By Tox, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Ok, this hasn't been asked before, at least not in a thread with "elusive" in the title. I had the following things happen today:

An investigator in the same space as an elusive monster (Tulzscha cultist): Mythos card makes the cultist move, but since there were no elder signs in any adiacent location I decided the cultist had to remain in the same space as the investigator, as per the normal base game rule. Was I correct? It doesn't say otherwise in the Kingsport manual, but it does say that elusive monsters try to avoid investigators. I'm not sure if that is just some flavor text to explain the reason of having elusive monsters.

Second, same thing but with an Elder sign adjacent. In this case, I decided Tulzscha's rule about cultists superceded the above mentioned rule (monsters don't move if an investigator is on their space) and moved him on the Elder sign. Again, was I correct?

I would like to know what everyone else thinks about these rules.

Elusive monsters ignore the presence of investigators and move as if no one were there (if I remember correctly). I don't think this is actually an issue unless there's something I'm misunderstanding.

Correct, this isn't an issue. By rule, Elusive monsters ignore investigators while moving (though this conflicts when they're also made to be Stalkers by some effect). So they would move according to their symbol, or they'd go to the elder sign.

Just out of curiosity, where did you guys see the rule? I went through the rulesbook but couldn't find anything. The section about elusive monsters doesn't clarify this particular issue.

The issue was that I had an Elder sign two streets away from a cultist, so in order to prevent him from moving to the street adiacent to the Elder sign, I used an investigator to anchor him down until I finally passed the Evade check and killed him.

Graphically (c = street with cultist, - = street, E = place with Elder sign)

Was holding him down here (c - E) in order to prevent him from moving here (c E), from where he could move on the sign because he was a Tulzscha fellow.

Not sure about the rulebooks and such, but it's in the "official answers from Kevin Wilson" thread.

[KH] 1. Do Elusive Monsters still not move if an Investigator is in their space? Given that they deliberately avoid combat, it seems that Elusive monsters should move whether an Investigator is in their space or not. Otherwise it's a pretty big weakness, since a player could neutralize Tulszhca's Elusive Cultists just by staying in their space. And do Hastur's Cultists NOT swoop down on Investigators, but only on Elder Signs when Tulzscha is the Herald? All of this would seem very logical, but the rulebook doesn't say. (06/13/08)

Ok, I've got some time this afternoon, so let me try to clear these up.
Elusive monsters will ignore investigators for purposes of movement, so they'll move away if they're in the same area as an investigator. This will be errata'ed when we update the FAQ for Kingsport.

"This will be errata'ed when we update the FAQ for Kingsport...er, Innsmouth...maybe Miskatonic...uh...geez, are you guys still here?"

LiTaS strikes again.

You may think this is cut and dried, but then... what happens when you use Glaaki and Tulzscha together?

How does an elusive stalker move?

If it always ignores investigators, it will never move as a stalker. I've been playing that the elusive does not affect their movement; only the ability to enter combat with them.

Elusive stalkers immediately die as their head explodes from trying to reconcile the two compulsions. ^_^

In real life, stalkers are usually elusive. Maybe the cultists always stay one distance away from you, just sort of watching you. Then they send you weird letters in the mail.
