Just making sure that I understand skills correctly...

By Darck Child, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

In character creation when the Player is choosing a Home World they don't actually get the skills listed they just treat said skills as if theat skill was Basic. For example: Feral Homeworld can make Survival check at half beacuse it is treated as a Basic Skill, right? Or does the character actually have that skill?

The next set of skills are given by career/class and then advanced by spending exp on the advancement tables, is this correct?

If I recall correctly, when a character advances in his Rank , the character can choose advancing skills in the new rank or from the previous one. Could you add the skills offered from the character's Homeworld? Example: a feral assassin wanting to buy the Skill Survival with the 400xp at character creation or even after the first adventure survived? Or would this fall under p.43 for Elite Advances? Or could the storyteller just add the survival skill to the earlier rank of Assassin?

Thanks in advance for any light you can shine on this for me.

This depends by home world. Some worlds do in fact give training in a skill, others allow advanced skills to be treated as basic skills (roll at half, instead of not being able to roll at all).

So then my basic understanding is correct?

Your basic understanding is, that all the skills listed for certain homeworlds are only treated as basic skills , right? If so, then no.

Homeworlds sometimes allow you to use certain skills as basic skills, other homeworlds allow you to use skills as if you'd have fully trained them, most homeworlds add both types of skills. Just as the previous poster wrote. They do exactly, what is written in the description under the homeworld.

e.g. A Feral Worlder gains:

Speak Language (Tribal Dialect) as a fully trained skill (full bonus)

Navigation (Surface), Survival and Tracking as basic skill (half bonus)

Someone from a Schola Progenium gains:

Literacy, Speak Language (High Gothic) and (Low Gothic) as a fully trained skill (full bonus)

Common Lore (Administratum), (Ecclesiarchy), (Imperial Creed), (Imperium), (War) and Scholastic Lore (Philosophy) as basic skills (half bonus)

And so on.

Thanks for the help, I think I get it now happy.gif
