Elusive monsters and evading during combat

By Sdrolion, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Sorry if this has been answered...I thought I had read an answer at some point, but I can't find it again. :-P

If you are already fighting an elusive monster, and wish to try to flee from it, do you still have to make an evade check like for any other monster, or do you get to auto-flee because it is elusive?

(I'm assuming that you treat combat against elusive monsters normally and that therefore you'd have to make the Evade to flee, as that seems to be what the rules suggest...basically I guess you attacked it, so now it is angry and going to fight you even if you try to back away. But I wanted to make sure.)

Also, the werewolf: it reads that it only hurts you when it enters your space. Does that mean it is safe for investigators to enter its space, or to remain in the same space as it?

So far as I know, the answer to the first question is that you must pass the check to flee: elusive only affects how combat is initiated.

The answer to the second, I believe, is that you're safe. The Werewolf only harms you when it moves into your space.

Thanks as always, Tibs. I was pretty sure we were doing it right, but it ended up being reaaaally important last game, so I wanted to make sure if it came up again that we handled it appropriately.

Tibs,

Which, in essence, means if I read an encounter which states "A monster surprises you!" I would draw a monster from the bag...and if that monster were to be Elusive , I could simply ignore it...?

You must ignore it. In other words, you are not allowed to enter combat with it.

I play that if the Werewolf appears, you lose two stamina damage. Depending on your definition of "enters," your interpretation may well vary.

no, no , no please don't start that again sorpresa.gif

You and Avec went on for a page and ahalf ~ you couldn't outrun the other...

Anyway... must ignore...?

Yes, because you have to make an "Evade" check to find them. And Surprising means you CANNOT make an evade check before combat.

So, you don't notice the snake person. Or the Werewolf eviscerates Tibs before he could run after it.

Ahhh, I got it! Thank you both, Ecno and Tibs.

I remember the discussion with avec. That's why I said that Werewolf bites is what I do. I don't want to give the impression that my interpretation is official or correct (or obvious).

I have vision of a Snake Person running behind you, yelling BOO into your ear, then scampering off laughing like a naughty school-boy.
