Jagdluther - is it any good?

By Major Mishap, in Dust Tactics

Has anybody tried this 10pt behemoth out on the table yet, how did it go? I ask because I keep thinking about buying one but they are twice the cost of a normal mech and just has a couple of conversion pieces to make it different from the Ludwig, so am wondering if it actually fights well. I don't think it will as you can get 2 enemy mechs and an infantry squad for the same points and the Hot Dog can still destroy it in one shot, any thoughts?

I almost think this is why they got rid of the cards. I think the rules for these walkers were an old ruleset where walkers cost a lot more than they do now. I would say even with all the special stuff it has the AP should only be what the Armor of the walker is. Since these aren't official you decide. My opinion is based on all the new units walkers and heroes still having the same value even though they have better or different stuff. I mean look at the Mickey vs the Hot Dog the mickey is by far a lot better than the Hot Dog, has 3 special abilities and can do about the same damage. So I think the AP of these cards are an old beta ruleset for Dust Tactics.

I love the JagdLuthor. But, no, it's not worth it. A single flame hit or petard mortar hit and all that armor and health goes poof! I'm also a fan of the Luthor but am begining to have my doubts, charge with Kampfzange just doesnt seem to hit that hard. And dont get me started on self repair...

Now BBQ Boys, THATS a squad worth their point, specialy in terrain dense environs. And my reg opponent gets lots of milage out of that steel rain.

i havnt proxied the jagtuthor , but i have considered buying one , i will try it out this next weekend .

as for the luthors , i play them pretty much every game . sunday i got in 3 30 point games , and my ludwig never got a shot off , my loth and luthers oppened the enemy walkers like tuna cans . first game wasnt even close , i only lost the ludwig and some infantry , next game i took out the tudwig and replaced it with my minesweeper , lost , but it was still kinda close . third game , same forces as second game , won , a little close but still had a loth and luther on the field .

they may not stand up at long range in open coridors to the ludwigs , but the Kampfzange and flak combined can do 6 dice at close range against walkers , and the flak is great at pasting infantry , especially BBQ squads and gunner/bot hunting squads at range if they manage to slip my your recon squads .

I generally agree with your assesment, but the fact that you cannot shoot your AA gun when you charge is a real bummer. But yeah, its not bad at all underground or in urban combat.

thats why i take the loth in bigger games , i just wish i had more walkers , i bought 2 lothars , but had to use the CC arms to make the hell runner llorando.gif

The Jagdluther is a bit overpriced. I think the main problem is that, while its defenses are far superior to the other walkers, its offense isn't.

I wonder if the Command Squad will make the Jagdluther a more viable choice, though. Since you can only resurrect one walker during a whole game, you might as well resurrect the biggest, baddest walker you can.

while its missing the machine gun , its 7.5 cannon IS better than the 8.8 by 1 die , and in a game like this , even 1 die can make a huge difference .

when i first saw this walker , i thought the cannon stats were hinky , but with some effort i looked it up . the germans DID make a 7.5 cannon that outperformed the 8.8 , it relied on a special shell and barrel combo that created more pressure as if fired so it went faster and hit harder .

as of this moment , this is the biggest baddest walker in the game , even if its not official .

at bare bones minimum , it guarantees that your opponent wont get a one shot kill on it from all but 2 units in the game (both of which have range issues ) which would allow you to be a bit more bold in some circumstances , especially in the first turns of a game .

Does anyone know how many points the Jagdluther should be? Maybe 52 in the new system?

In theory it should be 100pts, the new points are 10x basic cost as a rule of thumb. I've used it a few times and it is a tough nut to crack, you just have to make sure you can keep it away from Steel Rain with its auto-kill petard and the BBQ squad.

I learned some stuff about it. Just stay out of the range and you should be fine and I would say upper 60ish points not 100. prob like 65 to 68.
