Play Tannhauser by email/IM maybe.

By Miah999, in Tannhauser

I like it and I'm willing to try it out, though I don't have a web-cam sadly :(

You don't have to have a webcam, that just takes some of the "trust" out of the system, as dice rolls could be made under the cam and that way everyone's sure what happening. You can get a web cam in the US for less than $20 dollars at places like Wal*Mart or BigLots.

But that's more a perk than a neccessity, unless your playing against some you know may cheat.

What time zone are you in maybe we could schedule some sort of practice game, I use Windows Live Messenger 2011, it has a lot of features (including webcam support) for free.

An interesting concept.

The idea of trust through email would be an interesting concept, although in my last game, a Strosstruppen canceled three attacks in the same round by Brown, McNail and Tala...

...stuff like that is a stretch.

lol, you havent played my wife, who is blest by the great lord of dice gods. last night, 6 hits twice in a row, over 5 to hit, shock roll against 6 plus, gues what she got all 4!!!

Very good Miah! Taanhauser like chess! I've tested now a dice roller for messenger: I write "/roll d6" and me and you see the result. You can also put modifier: "/roll d6 +2" push enter and you will see the valour of dice, the modifier and the result.

If you want roll 3 dice "/roll 3d6" and push enter.

The advantage is that you can roll the dice when you want, and then when I open my messenger I'll see the results on my window (and the mouvement if you have notificated too).

If you want the dice roller application for messenger, you must download "messenger plus 5" pages.msgplus.net/5/Plus5LP1/ (for the last messenger version).

After installation, let go on www.msgplus.net/Downloads/Scripts and clik on which you want (I had selected the firts).

I'm sorry for all syntax and grammatical mistakes in this post, I had to write too quick becouse of few time.

Carlos this is awsome, thanks!!!

Now I really can't wait to try this out.

Or you can use pidgin client for IM (it supports whole bunch of protocols) and there's also plugin for dice rolling

Errata Corrige:

After installation of Messenger Plus 5, clik on www.msgplus.net/Downloads/Scripts and digit "dice roller" on the search.

I would give it a try. How would items work?

There's a problem to play by msn/e-mail/IM: the create tokens ... noone knows what there's in.

Does who choose it?

I thought that a number can be associated to each create token (like a list), i.e. create token with: CPs 1 = number 1, CPs 2 = number 2 ecc.., with knife = 9, with aid kit = 10 and so on.

The total is counted, and by a dice roll (I've downloaded "Advanced Dice Roller" between the disposable on the site above-mentionated), we have a create token equivalent to the number rolled.

PS: the "dice roller" application can roll any kind of dice: if we have 17 create tokens total available we can write "/roll 1d17" (without " ") and push eneter, as if we had a die with 17 faces!

If we have 113 create tokens "/roll 1d113" ecc...

I hope to be helpful, and I hope to test the game soon.

The item works very good!

@Carlos

That's a pretty good idea with the crate tokens, for simplicty I would limit the number of tokens to 20 or so, or maybe just use the crate cards.

There are nine crate cards, but two are grenades, so a "d10" would let you roll for eight equippment, and 1-2 Command Points.

What do you think?

I'm happy you like this idea and I like your simplified token list, it's easy and quick.

Another idea for map: I've seen that you posted on your blog, and by that I've thougth the circles tagged with a letter and a number could be easyer than only number... I try to post an image above (this is my first time ah):

Each letter is numerated up to 9, and the different coulor simplify to find the specified circle.

I know this is not so nice, but it's a start.

No, Carlos they are great, this is what I had planned, but time and family conspired to make me work faster.

If you don't mind, I post these to my blog also.

Thanks again, we shold try a game sometime.

You are welcome.

No problem for your blog, this is a merit for me.

Sure we must try, but after Easter: I'm coming back my parents' home, and I don't bring my pc (it isn't a laptop) nor Tannhauser bord game with me.

I can't wait for...

I read it, very well.

I hope someone else could try the same game system to make a long distance playing: it's funny.

Sounds good! How much time took it between turns? Did you mail by minutes? Hours? Days? How did you handle things that needed "reaction-" from an opponent like using overwatch, counterattack, etc. ?

We used messenger, so when we were connceted at the same time all went on instantly. We spent 6 days totally, playing is been easy and fast.

I.e.: Hermann J4 -->F1, he takes mental +1 by CP, Patmos Amulet on Comm. Delta: 4 dice at diff. 3 , after that I rolled my virtual dice.

An advantage of msn is the dialog window and the possibility to save all conversations in a single file, so I could re-read all movements and all actions opening always the same file.

I printed the numbered map on a A4 sheet (full colour to see the pathfinding system), then I used the sticky side of a post-it (cutting little squares by scissors) to indicate the characters, the smoke, any objects, cretaes etc... on the map . It's a confortable method if you're short of room to leave real map-board open (like me), or if you want to play another match with someone else.

I kept a full board setup with all character cards, and equipment cards out, but I have lots of room, and withh all the expansions I have enough components to play almost three games at once.

Someone did make a computer version of Tannhauser. Check out You Tube - Tannhauser Online by hebus 1

I wish FFG will eventually allow it to be released. It will generate more interest and get the game more popular rather than hurting sales.

As I recall FFG sent him a cease and disist order, not to mention I believe that it was not updated for the revised rules much like the Vassal module never was. By using IM or email we stay pretty well clear of FFG's rabid attack lawyers, that they may set loose on those thinking of porting their IP to the PC, Iphone, etc. This has become especially likely since FFG has started making their own Iphone apps.

Hm, clever. Well done :)
