Questions from a new player

By Bitterthings, in Talisman Rules Questions

Whats up everyone?!

Just picked up Talisman and The Sacred Pool yesterday (wanted the dungeon but they didnt have it, sad face), and played our first game.... and I love this game! But we had some rules questions, some of which Ive been able to find the answers for on here-- heres the ones Im still not sure on:

1) If someone lands on a square, gets the imp drawn, and gets sent to a new location--- do they draw a card in this new location or encounter anything there?

2) If the Augur is revealed, and you hit 1 event card and place it on top, does the Augur remain the rest of the game in that location, making it pretty much a useless but safe (unless landing on a player) square to land on?

3) We had tons of squares last night that had objects on them of alignment no one could use... If you land on a square with an object or follower (for us this was mercenary) and dont want the mercenary and dont want/cant have the object-- can you encounter the space instead and draw a card? We werent really sure when you had to encounter the space or a character on it, and when you could or could not draw cards on it because of other face up cards on the spot. (such as if someone gets toaded, does that mean you cant do anything at the city till all the stuff on it is picked up-- that sort of thing).

4) Not a rules question--- but with what i have-- is there an expansion out there that would shine more than others in a 3-4 player game that anyone would suggest I pick up next?

5) Do cards that say "in combat you may" or something to that effect work in strength and psychic combat? We figured yes but just checking.

I thnk thats everything--- thanks everyone : )

#1: Yes.

#2: No idea. What does the actual card text say?

#3: If you land in a Draw 1 Card space with say Mercenary, encountering the space means you encounter the merc who counts as the 1 card. So you can either hire the merc or decline, either way, you won't draw a card. Non-draw spaces (like City), you first encounter the cards in order, picking up whatever you like, leaving behind what not, then, assuming your turn hasn't ended, encounter the space as normal.

#4: Reaper.

#5: Combat is both, but many cards specifically state either battle or psychic combat, if it says battle, then it's battle only.

Draw 6 Adventure cards. Place any events on top of the deck facedown in any order you wish., and discard the other cards. If no events are drawn, discard this card.

typing that out I realize we all simply didnt read it correctly. We thought that if you didnt hit any event cards as part of his first draw 6 then put them back ability he was discarded and simply left him there the rest of the game since we hit one... Correctly played, you would reveal cards drawn from the adventure deck every turn from then on and as soon as a non event is drawn it would leave the board to the discard pile... Sometimes another good reading is all you need to make things become more clear :P

Thanks alot for your replies! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.

I think my group might be a little bumbed out that if there is stuff like an ojbect in a draw square and they cant pick it up because of alignment that they wont be able to do anything that turn. Might have to make a house rule to get around that (last night we had stuff on half the board and no one was landing on anything they could have turn after turn.)
