The price of hubris with psykers

By platinumcorgi, in Deathwatch Gamemasters

Spoilers!

So has anyone run the price of hubris with a psyker in the party? I'm thinking this would really affect the proving when they need to remove their weapons and armor to prove themselves. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is it a game changer, or not a big deal.

If it's a problem, what do you suggest to even it out?

I ran it this weekend. The librarian in my group didn't cause any problems but a squad mode ability made a huge difference. It was a little depressing, the diabolodon died in 3 rounds without having landed a hit! A lucky 39 hit point righteous fury from the devastator with a knife didn't help its chances either.

At time of writing this a session was finished an hour ago in which we played the divested hunt. As GM I removed the weapons and armour as requested but because the Psyker in my group had not openly shown to use powers I assumed that a Aurans did not know he had powers. In my session it was actually the Psyker who landed the killing blow with a smite attack but the diablodon had been ground down by a lot of attacks and also a squad move.

We killed 3 diablodons (sp?) just because we could and the librarian didn't use any powers because they were 'cheating'. (his decision)

My group killed the diablodon without their Librarian ('was off that particular day...). The thing is, they had two Blood Angels :) And that makes a kind of a difference.

I'd say it is much easier with a psyker, but then it's the PCs' job to be clever about that (not showing off their powers, trying to get the head as clean as possible as a trophy in order not to show that psy powers were used, whatever...).

And I'm beginning to think that the Aurans would not care that much, in fact. I don't recall them having a specified attitude about psy powers, so maybe they consider those part of your "inner strength", etc?

It's been several months since we played it, so I don't remember the details that well. I just remember it was quite fun and there could be some cool RP.

PS: saying psy powers are "cheating" is completely cool.

Our killteam decided that, since we were performing in the Auron's honourable hunt, that it would be dishonorable to use anything except the weapons they gave us. (Also I kind of spat in the diablodon's eye, blinding it...but that's a different story)
