Double Backgrounds.

I have a Battle Sister character; She was a malfian familious protégée whose parents were killed by heretics during an incident of rebellion and was sent to the Schola Progenium, and was later found out to be a decedent of Haarlock (Thanks a lot GM…Stupid house of dust and ash).

Currently I only apply the schola progenia traits. Should I apply both? Originally I just was thinking about having an interesting background story. But then I thought that I wouldn’t mind also taking on the drawback talents of the Familious Protégée. Then I thought about how I should probably take all the traits. I’m not really looking for the buffs I was just wondering what everyone else thought.

They are both homeworlds, so you get one or the other.

Since the Famulous Protege come from Noble families, I'm surprised that one of them goes to the Scholar instead of just being raised by someone else within their family.

I would do it.. makes a cool back story and adds to the roleplaying.

It could depend on when exactly the character was introduced to the Schola, i.e. how much time she spent in each origin. Given the rather young induction age of the Scholae Progenium, I could see most effects of the other origin simply not apply because the character did not spend as much time "in" it. On the other hand, the Protégé origin consists partially of physical effects that the character could have either way due to genetical imperfections, and the Lineage table seems to balance itself with advantages and disadvantages, so could (in theory) be added to anything ...

If you really want to expand it beyond just being a background, I'd suggest to simply add the following trait in addition to those from the Schola Progenium origin:

  • Mysterious Lineage (on a roll of 9-10 the Corruption Points become Insanity Points, on a roll of 7-8 the Forbidden Lore is a result of convent training)

Famulous Network and Wealth are cancelled out by the character's new "occupation", and what little the character learned about Etiquette as a child got lost during the Schola indoctrination.
