Ship as character

By Void_onion213, in Rogue Trader

In the starship section of Rogue trader, it describes ships as character like. If this is true, why dosen't the vessel's machine spirit gain experiance or the crew for that matter. Just as character gain xp for completing endevors, should the crew gain certain traits and talents based on the captain's performance and general experiance. Same can be said for the ship, maby the machine spirit learns a new trick or starts to take on qualities of the captain. this is all run off lines of though. nice to consider but would result in an extra chapter or two of rules, talents and skills. lol, please post ideas. should have added this for BFK.

You don't need more bonus on a the ship, it is already powerful enough with players in them.

When the book talk about the ship being an additional character, it means that the same way that people call the Firefly, the Millenium Falcon or the Babylon 5 space station characters within their respective show.

Still just an object, but important enough enough to the story and the characters that it often takes the same position and importance within the narrative a human character might. That's why a close and positive relationship between players and their ship is promoted (a close and positive relationship between PCs and their ship being an optional result).

This cannot be forced or symbolized by giving it special characteristics or xp. That would follow a totally different understanding of 'making it a character'.
