Eviscerator and Blade master.

By Orphsis, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hi.

I had a debate with a fellow acolyte the other day, he says that my Eviscerator doesn't come under the sword category and, in turn, stops me from using the 'Blade Master' Talent. Where I belive it's just a two-handed Chain sword.

Note: The 'Blade master' talent rules say that you can use this trait with a Chain swords.

I personally don't see the problem with i allowing a reroll when attacking with that weapon, after all- it allows you to reroll a failed WS with a sword- and the Eviscirator is clearly a sword, a very big one at that.

I personally allow it in my games.

I don't see why you wouldnt.

I'd say you have the support of the community. Lets also not forget that the Eviscerator Has that nasty little habit of cutting limbs off if you "jam" the weapon... Having that extra re-roll can be a life saver sometimes (literally).

I may be taking it a little out of context but i'd deff want a re-roll if that happened to one of my chars.

Personally I've expanded Blademaster to be usable with any weapon that you have proficiency with.

The alternative is to either: a.) All serious melee characters will be almost forced to use swords or b.) have to create Axemaster, Macemaster, Handtohandmaster, etc talents...

So yeah. Making Blademaster usable with all weapon types just seemed like MUCH less of a headache and doesn't make the characters regret xp spent if they should later acquire different kinds of gear that they want to use.

I would not go as far as making it apply to all weapons, but I would expand it to all bladed weapons.

Well, no offense to your friend Orphsis, but that's a silly assertion on their part with no merit. An Evicerator is obviously a two-handed chainsword. Blademaster applies to any sword or knife regardless of handedness or proficiency group. The talent is very clearly worded. But if all else fails and your group refuses to see reason, you could get your hands on a Lathe-Forged Greatsword instead? Those are quite nice in terms of raw killing power and are unarguably swords!

Incidentally, the revised version published in Rogue Trader covers Axes of all varieties as well, although I haven't seen any errata to include this in Dark Heresy as yet.

Rogue Trader changed several talents or gear slightly (for example a compact weapon not losing range anymore). Without those changes being carried back to Dark Heresy.

Not true. RT pg 133

"This upgrade halves the weight of the weapon but also halves its clip size and range as well as reducing its Damage by 1. Anyone attempting to find a concealed weapon with the Compact upgrade suffers a -20 penalty to any related Skill Test (e.g. Awareness, Search)."

Its the same as presented in DH with the errata addition included.
