some new questions

By xqg5009, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I and my friends played couple rounds last night and had some questions, maybe someone can help me ???

1. If a character's STR is lowered to zero by a card effect and says:" by the end of phase, lower this character's STR and is killed if lower than 0 (something like that). My question is, if i can use duplicate, or other ways to save this character?? My friends said no, because that "lower-kill" effect would be there for the whole phase. So even if u save it once, it would still be killed immediately. (STR is still<0)

2. About the even card "NO USE FOR GRIEF". Can i also put duplicate into play after i play this card? Since it says "put any number of sand snakes...."

3. Just to confirm, i can't make a participant be out of a challenge by losing its icons??

4. play a card out of shawdow, and do an "any phase" action, which one goes first??

5. for deck building. i play House Martell. I am looking for some good martell cards that can let you discard attachments. i know one of the plot cards does this.

also, i need to find some ways to dicard opponents' locations. If you play House Martell, you will know what i am talking about. LOCATIONS & ATTACHMENTS = The Red Viper's Weaknesssssssssssssssss!

one more question. if your card effect says: choose the attacking character, or the defending character..., does that mean it applys to all attacking/defending characters in addition to yours???

1. First of all, strength cannot be lower than 0. If all modifiers would amount to negative strength, the strength is considered to be 0. (Note that whenever you modify a character's strength, you don't start with the current strength, but with the base strength and add up all modifiers from there.) Second, yes, the "lower a character's strength and kill if it is 0" is a so-called "terminal effect." You cannot save (and are not allowed to attempt to save) from a terminal effect unless the save removes the kill condition (e.g by boosting the character's strength or removing the attachment that is responsible for the terminal effect).

2. Correct. When a unique card comes into play, and there is already a copy of that card in play, it becomes a duplicate.

3. Correct. Icons are only a necessity for declaring a character to be participating in the challenge. Once it's in the challenge, a character can only be removed from the challenge by a card effect that specifically does so.

4. The opportunity to bring cards out of Shadows precedes any other framework or player action in the phase. (Mandon Moore's ability is an any phase action, so the question doesn't apply). Note that each players has only one opportunity to bring a card out of Shadows each phase, starting with the First Player and going clockwise. If you pass up your one opportunity, your next window to bring a card out of Shadows is at the beginning of the next phase.

5. There's not many, really. I can only think of Maester of Lemonwood which lets you discard condition attachments when he comes into play. Ill Tidings is an event that lets you discard an attachment by kneeling a Maester or Learned-crest character. Martell has quite a few Maesters, so it's something to think about.

I'm lost on in-house stuff to remove locations. You could try the neutral Pyromancer's Apprentice.

Thank you, that was really helpful! About question 3 , however, i think maybe i should make my question clearer. If there is no sand snake characters in play at all. and suddenly i kill the RV and play the No use for grief. Can i put all sand snakes, including the duplicates, into play after i play that event??

Yes, you can :)

Click the link in my signature and check "Get rid of location" option there. Also uncheck Hide: Plots.

The best option for Martell is Condemned by the Council.
