looking at the not so close pic that ffg have given us for Ozz and Marcus, i zoomed as close as possible and it seems marcus' fists and ozz rocket punch have a range of 'C'. Wonder if that will be some form of close combat range. Possible new close combat rules coming in Seelowe? Discuss!
New range for Ozz and Marcus?
Beats me, I can't think of anything these characters could do that a guy with a knife can't.
It means Combat, all the new cards in operation cyclone have a C for range for knives also. I think its less confusing of what is and isnt a Combat weapon.
actually , its not confusing , it would be a question of technicalities since the starter set only applies close combat rules to the "knives" , and " knives and grenades " so that even if , and especially for custome home made units , a figure has what is obviously a close combat weapon that should apply in the knives and grenades portion of combat , it wouldnt under the original rules definitions .
this would allow it to be covered in the rules
Yes it can be confusing b/c I am sure they are coming out with other combat items for example the rocket punch which should have something to make it different than Joe's ACP. IF you think in 40k terms they use a pistol as a close combat weapon as well as a pistol. that why you get space marines who have a bolt pistol in it. Plus the Kampfzange should have a C also even though the infantry cannot fight back. A tank on tank combat would happen if a Luther and a Luther fight.
dont go bringing 40K into this , this game has its own clearly defined rules as defined by the main rule book , its only confusing , if you are trying to apply 40K rules to this game again .
and your point against the Kampfzange , is the point i was making , under the original rules , by technicality , its not a CC weapon because its not a "knife" , or "knife and grenade" . this changes that "technicality"

This is exactly why it would be confusing by adding in another melee catagory, A Kampfzange is already a melee weapon only with 1 range how can a monkies powerfist be classed any different, does exactly the same job. Just have to wait and see I suppose.

it wouldnt be adding in another melee catagory , but rather making a catch all catagory for all the mele weapons that should happen in the knives and grenades phase .
I'm assuming it's just going to be the catch-all for "melee combat weapons which will trigger a counter attack by other C-range weapons", which would still allow for things like the BBQ Squads range 1 shotties which they could run up, use and not trigger a counter attack. The Luther would also just get a range of 1 because it wouldn't trigger a counter attack either. It's really just a much cleaner way to simplify the close combat rules. Assuming my guess is right that is.
Kris is right.
Technically, this game doesn't actually 'have' any melee weapons as yet. I'm not sure what the distinction between knife/grenade and melee weapons will be, but it could be the case that as yet unseen units are immune to 'C' attacks through some special skill?
Dust is a brilliantly simple game system, so I can't see them cluttering it with multiple melee classifications either. I'm sure it will be something simple and complimentary to the game system, but one thing I know for sure is that there's zero benefit to any of us in arguing about rules that we haven't even seen yet.
No, I'm pretty sure its Combat b/c Manfred's, Rosie's, Johnny's and Stephan's Knives have a C for the range on their cards and they wouldnt need to add anything just put in the next expansion, Range C: see page 22 of the Dust Tactics Rulebook for Close Combat: Squad vs. Sqaud.
My Rosie and Manfred have '1's for knife range, no 'c's....
That's odd then because if you look at the Stephan card on my blog it has a C for range and its just a Knife but Johnny doesn't. So maybe its a easy mistake but already printed kind of thing like Deploy in missions. Who knows. I started putting C on my combat stuff as soon as I noticed it on Stephan.
Maybe they should come out with stickers to put on ur rule book and cards for erratas
My favorit rule flub so far is the reference to the JagdLuthor on page 20 of the rulebook (1/skull), not only is the Jagd not 'allowed' in Dust but it has the wrong armor and health stats listed in the rulebook (should be 6/8 not 5/6).
lol I thought I was like the only person who noticed that or the Jagdluthor even being in the rulebook is especially what I thought was wrong.

well the rule books were printed when AEG had this game , and DG didnt pull the cards untill after FFG told them to , so obviously they thought they could produce them along side the game that AEG was going to sell .
True enough, though they should still have gotten the armor and health stats correct in that case. Does anyone know if the Otto and Barking Dog will have cards? I know we'll all do our own if they dont, but still, I'd like something "official' or even 'semiofficial'.
