Set up for Counterattack at orel

By Aussie_Digger2, in Tide of Iron

The set up for german divsion 1 says, '"any of the hexes with trenches on map 31B and any of the hexes on map 35B"

so this means you can not make use of the entrenchment on the hill on 31B at set up?

also the at gun has to be placed in the open along with a squad in the open as squads can not operate AT guns from a trench (dosnt make sence for a defensive line, i would have thought at least the at gun could be placed on the hill with the entrenchment with a squad)

dont know if there is any info missing from the setup please Bill let us know.

As this does not make much sense, I used the entrenchment on the hill for a squad and the gun. Did not help the gun, though. I think allowing the gun to be placed in a trench (immobilized) is A) historically correct, and B) increases its usefulness from being a shell magnet to being an AT gun.

well once my copy arrives i will look at the setup and see if it needs an adjustment.

The scenario as it is now forces the Germans to deploy the AT-Gun in the open in a hex with a trench. Since squads inside a tranch can't operate an AT-Gun, the squad using it will also have to deploy in the open ... unless you decide it's better to save your squad and hide it in a trench anyway. Which you might as well do, because since the AT-Gun has to be deployed in the open and within range of the Soviet tanks, it will be destroyed before it can fire one shot anyway.

Cheating a little bit and deploying it on the hill with the entrenchment doesn't change things ... still in range of the Soviet tanks and still destroyed before firing the first shot.

Why would this be cheating? The AT gun is allowed to be operated by a unit in an ENTRENCHMENT AND gains +1 cover. Not that it's going to help much, but still it woul;dn't be chearting...

I'd say have the Soviets move onto the board. From what I've heard it won't be enough to balance the scenario, but it will certainly help!

Cheating because the Germans are only allowed to deploy in a trench hex ... and an entrenchment is not the same as a trench. Easy to overlook, only noticed it today myself when I was pondering the reply to this thread.

I noticed that too and it HAS to be an error. placing an entrenchment and a CP objective on the hill and then not allowing the Germans to set up there, pure nonsense.
