Greetings and Lots of Ideas

By Xarius, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

I am a new GM of Rogue Trader and so far very much enjoy the game. I have been lurking for weeks on the forum getting ideas from what is posted here.

The campaign I am running right now is for one person (my best friend) and giving me a chance to explore the rules set and the setting of the Koronus Expanse. I intend to launch a larger game with more people after I get more experience and have more of my version of the Expanse and Calixis Sector fleshed out. Neither my friend or I were particularly interested in the specific theme of Death Watch but he had his heart set on playing a space marine so is using a character using that rules set.

What are some of your opinions on having characters from other of the settings in RT game and thoughts and ideas you may have on interfacing the greater set of Rogue Trader, Death Watch, Dark Heresy, and (when it is out) Black Crusade into one grand storyline involving all four major books.

*chuckle* I do not nessessarily mean putting a person dedicated to Chaos in the middle of a Death Watch group, for example. I mean that in the sense of interweaving plotlines involving all four.

I picked Rogue as the hub right now because I run it as a sandbox type game ( which is my major style and mostly story driven with less monster bashing). I also am completely enamoured of the endeavor system and the macro and micro levels of the game.

I have a couple of the Dark Heresy products mostly by accident, but they made such wonderful backgound material I could not resist getting them. I have the Battlefleet Koronus book on order in soon to get it.

Could I get some thoughts on interfacing maps that go from planet , to system, to subsector, to sector , to segmentum, then finally a full Imperium map ?

Anyway , great to meet everyone and I know that is a lot of different things thrown out all at once sonrojado.gif.

The kill marine from deathwatch (Rites of Battle) is a good way to integrate a space marine into your RT crew. Especially if your RT is continually pushing the borders of known space it'd give the marine a lot of opportunities to study new -hitherto unknown - Xenos species which'd be a good reason for him to be on the ship.

Other then that: i'd be very weary of introducing to many Dark Heresy characters into RT. Ascended levels are imo not compatible with RT, they're more powerfull, especially if coupled to the wealth of a RT.

As for interweaving plotlines involving all four: the Black Crusade would be an ideal convergence point indeed.

The maps thing i won't go into, i suck at that :P

I am in fact working on creating a story line that is going to encompass all three settings in one arc.

There is a Rogue Trader scenario, wherein a dire threat is discovered. The cast in that scenario will not be aware of how close to the edge of chaos they are until the scenario ends, and they meet members of the inquisition.

In the Second scenario, Dark Heresy acolytes spend time trying to uncover who designed and shipped a terrible weapon off of a forge world. Their investigation will reveal a dangerous foe that has been hidden among the righteous, in plain sight so to speak. Hopefully, just in the nick of time, they will pass on important information to the Ordos Xenos.

That will trigger the third scenario, which is a Deathwatch game. In that game, the cast will embark on a mission that takes them to a planet filled with dangerous predators and hides an enemy force that they will battle in order to prevent the deployment of a weapon that is the twin of the terrible thing discovered in the Rogue Trader chapter.

Each scenario is pretty short, written to be played over two sessions each, and to introduce my players to the setting and game material.

The characters from each scenario will only interact superficially, and not for more than an in game moment.

Good luck with your endeavors.

P.S.

Like the last guy, i am not map proficient. Best of luck with that. It sounds like it would be an awesome web project.

I found this one. http://www.joachim-adomeit.de/wh40k/spacemap.map.html

It doesn't do quite what you want, but it is a nice map.

www.darkmillenia.net is working on an interactive map, but the first one got pulled? They are working on version 3.0 right now.
